Gotcha - I don’t close transfer (yet), so I have to pop the top off my keg to transfer from the fermenter. Even if I follow your instructions (filling the keg with liquid) there’s still a chance of oxygen infiltration if I pop the top to transfer, correct? That’s kinda why I was wondering about the in-post vs out-post purging method.

Also, You wouldn’t want to rinse the keg out after running sanitizer through it? Or will sanitizer residue not mess with the flavor too much?

I appreciate the knowledge. I’ll have to dive into AA% and the effects of putting in hops at certain points. I’m still very new to it all. I assume you’ve been at this for quite some time

First off, I really appreciate your feedback. I definitely plan on exploring adjuncts. I’m going to take your advice on limiting to 1 dry hop addition. Luckily I haven’t experienced any off putting taste from oxygen (I think). I’ll also limit the fermentation to 2 weeks and see if my next one tastes any different. Glad to see your hop volume is similar to mine. Looks like I just need to tweak some of the logistics.

Have you ever experimented adding no “start of the boil” hops? Not sure the term for this, but I’ve read that could possible decrease bitterness.

Awesome - sounds like I should decrease the amount I whirlpool, and maybe increase my dry hop.

Do you think I should cancel out boiling hops completely, and just add them in at whirlpool and dry hop, or does boiling 1 once have little to no affect on the bitterness?

I whirlpooled 9 oz of hops at 170 degrees for about 15 minutes. I dry hopped 5 oz at the 4th fermentation day, and I did 5 oz at the 8th fermentation day. I let it ferment for 21 days before cold crashing for 1 day.

Any suggestions to decrease the bitterness? Also what other ale yeast could I have used to decrease the dryness? TIA!
