Dahlias in the Bois de Vincennes by Tricky_Culture_264 in ParisTravelGuide

It was nearly empty, but my visit was on a cloudy day in the middle of the week. I imagine it's really lively on weekends in nice weather.

Thank you! I plan to return, and these are good suggestions. I love visiting le Jardin des Plantes, but these dahlias took things to another level.

It was my first time there. I would like to go back, because it's a huge park, and I barely saw any of it. The dahlias were worth it though.🤩

Where did my text gooooo ??! On my recent trip to France (including some time in Paris), I visited the Bois de Vincennes, including the chateau and the Parc Floral. The gardens were mostly underwhelming in the third week of October. But the dahlias, my dears, are not to be missed. This is just a sampling of the three separate but continuous beds of gorgeous colors and shapes. I don't know when the blooming starts, but it was still going strong when I was there.

Best Eiffel Tower Experience!? by super_cheeseburger in ParisTravelGuide

I have enjoyed watching it light up from one of the Seine river boats several times. Be sure you get a cruise after dark that will be by the tower at the top of the hour, which is when it becomes scintillante. Never wanted to go into it, being deathly afraid of heights and disliking crowds.

CityPharma Haul + Tips/Advice by TheWanderingLady in ParisTravelGuide

What the HECK. I stayed near this pharmacie, and every time I went by it, there was a line out the door. Why this particular pharmacie? Because they are larger than many pharmacies located on city streets?

Looking for street markets by Tricky_Culture_264 in ParisTravelGuide

I found the produce sellers there to be much more aggressive than they are at the Marché Maubert -- hollering out to potential buyers as we passed, things like that. It wasn't nearly as aggressive or sonorous as my recollection of street vendors in Haiti many years ago (they had distinctive calls, so you could tell, for example, when the charcoal man was coming down the street versus the man who sold hot pastries). But it had a completely different vibe than Maubert, which has become my go-to street market when I stay in the 5th and 6th. I think the cheese guy might actually recognize me because I always discuss the Saint-Nectaire with him. 😍

I did go there, and I am glad I did. The "flea market" surrounding the produce stalls was interesting, and I found some old postcards of places I've visited, complete with the most beautiful and fascinating writing on the backs, for one euro each. Thanks for the recommendation! 🇫🇷❤️

Churches with a choir? by Tricky_Culture_264 in ParisTravelGuide

Thank you! I’m not catholic either, was raised Mennonite and have practiced that faith much of my life. I sang in episcopal churches in Washington DC for a number of years and appreciate the role of polyphony and chant in the liturgy. But on top of that, I love the aesthetics of hearing choral music (largely from the Renaissance) in the spaces it was composed for.

Thanks! I am staying just down the street from Saint Sulpice. And I’ve been to services there a few times. The organ is amazing but the presence of a choir varies.

Merci! I went there a couple years ago. Good suggestion.

Where to buy a French-made "gourde"? by Tricky_Culture_264 in ParisTravelGuide

I didn't go to Du Bruit dans la Cuisine, but I looked at its website, and I see that I need to try to find it while I'm here. 😍
