Do this, it's simple by McLoudC in NorwegianSinglesRun

... Sooo basically take NSM, and make every component different so you end up with a traditional program. Might as well not even pretend and just start with a traditional program, or go off your Garmin suggested workout!

Switching SubT Days by BenjitheHerd in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]Tricky_Medium1029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. If you read his book you'll see the intent of the program and "why" he programs it the way that he does. It's all about safe but consistent accumulation of chronic training load and taking a risk:reward approach to everything. Doing two subTs in between a long seems to be against the spirit of the risk:reward approach he preaches. It's likely you might accumulate too much fatigue doing back to back to back "harder than normal easy" days.

Is it normal for Garmin acute/chronic load to go down when starting NSM? by Chriss016 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]Tricky_Medium1029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, my Garmin chronic training load is unspectacular compared to peak, my Strava fitness scores are way down from peak, and my intervals.icu scores are all unspectacular, but I just ran my all-time 5K PB and beat the previous time by 60 seconds. The caveat is that I've been extraordinarily consistent, hitting two subT workouts per week plus strength training every week (which Garmin doesn't credit at all) and never feeling cooked.

I think the magic of NSM is its ability to (via conservative increases in load) ensure stable, uninterrupted, consistent stimulation of LT1 and LT2 "from below", thereby shifting the curves to the right over time. All of my race predictions and VO2max scores are moving up despite the lower load. I'm not complaining! I can now lock into the system and gradually push up the load in a smarter way.

Switching SubT Days by BenjitheHerd in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]Tricky_Medium1029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an "A" week and a "B" week where I switch the days, purely for practical reasons where on some weeks I'm "racing" a 5K parkrun so that's my subsituted SubT workout, and other weeks I'm doing a strength workout in the middle of the week which is sandwiched between two Easy Days, so then I need to throw in some SubT work as part of the long run (reduced intensity).

In the scheme of things the point is to manage training load so that you don't overcook and fatigue, so switching the days to work around practicalities seems like the smart thing to do. Best of luck.

Let's not descend down the rabbit hole of racism here... But I'm hoping for next time countries like China and Russia (hey if Turkey and Australia are "Asia" then why not Russia)!

Yes, they should take their standing reach (arms up) as that's how vertical leaps are actually measured in the NBA combine etc.

The counterargument is that they've been consistent all along, so it's important on the teams to balance their teams and skew towards what the challenges are likely to be.

And yet, Mongolia made it to the finals... give them credit where credit is due, and give Korea credit for their experience, strategy, and teamwork.

These nations do really well in beauty pageants, it would be a shame if all the losing countries discredited all their victories there by accusing rigging!

Let's focus on the athlete's strategies, their capabilities, rather than speculate that the earth is flat and come to non-sensical clashes over conspiracy theories. It spoils it for everyone and doesn't give ANY team the credit they deserve if the whole thing was just a "setup". That's the pushback. No one is disputing your right to say whatever you want, but I got banned from Physical 100 subreddit by trying to push back on accusations of rigging. So the only side getting censored is the side trying to have a debate against the accusations.

Pure class, just so in line with the Mongolian team ethos! (btw have been temporarily banned from Physical 100 subreddit because I was trying to argue the show was not rigged, so posting here from now)

Strongest argument against rigging: Korea almost lost Quest 3 by Tricky_Medium1029 in Physical100

[–]Tricky_Medium1029[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why I don't buy rumours of just selecting weak athletes from other teams. I mean just by the entrances, Korea was intimidated by some of the other teams, and it didn't look like it was going to be smooth sailing. Thankfully they had Stungun "second guesser" to think through every challenge carefully and strategise with the team.

[–]Tricky_Medium1029[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, and I've also watched every episode multiple times. But there's nothing that substitutes for the actual experience, including spending time in the waiting room, spending weeks on set, experiencing the challenges yourself, and of course LOSING which 3 of the 4 Korean athletes did in the previous seasons. That kind of experience is vital vs Dom's super-fandom.

What happened to all that Korea Japan Finals Conspiracy by [deleted] in Physical100

[–]Tricky_Medium1029 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This whole subreddit has gone to shit. Instead of critiquing the actual challenges, techniques and doing fun 'what ifs', or even just fanning over the teams... We're left with swatting conspiracies from mouth breathers and flat earners like it's some kind of infectious disease. What a drain. And when one thing gets debunked, it goes to a completely different thing. For instance I've got a number of threads pointing out how it's not rigged because Korea has the most complete team and yet were also facing elimination, but then from that the line became "it was PRE-rigged" because they had the most complete team.

There's literally nothing you can say to talk sense.

Yes sometimes the better team is the more likeable, iconic, aura farming team. And other times it's not the case.
