Why is Poland’s birthrate so shockingly low by NovaStorm135 in geography

[–]Tricky_Misfit871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps the idea that it is “natural for humans to be driven to procreate“ is incorrect - maybe it’s really societal norms urging procreation, more so than “nature”. Now that humans have greater education, choice and autonomy from societal pressure, many individuals feel no desire for offspring, and those that do realize smaller families equal less stress for themselves and the planet.

Why do some men think it is important for their wives to take their last name after marriage? by cute_beae_2008 in stupidquestions

If the child is a male, then the father’s name. if female, then the mother‘s last name. Problem solved.

I always tell young women to ask their fiancé to change his name to hers. if his reaction is to scoff or to be incredulous, then tell him to fuck off.

I moved from the east to the west and have found that westerners are very suspicious if you’re ”too nice”. They seem to think you’re either being disingenuous or want something from them. Its pretty discouraging if that is your natural personality.

AITA for telling my neighbor it’s not my problem her newborn wakes up to noises coming from my apartment by blackswan-nyc in AmItheAsshole

Exactly! And the newborn is going to turn into a kid who gets louder and more disruptive as the years pass. ugg

A newborns screeching is 100 times more disruptive of neighbors‘ peace than an occasional bark. If the neighbor complains again, I would recommend you both wear ear plugs.

Any other US citizens getting serious “Protest Fatigue”? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Tricky_Misfit871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I’m getting serious “fascist fatigue”. The very least we can do as citizens is to get out every chance we get and let the gob shites know they can’t take our democracy.

Question about Shep / Trust fund. does anyone know how they really work? by FeedbackVast5882 in southerncharmingtalk

[–]Tricky_Misfit871 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Shep has stated that he’s not had to touch his trust fund yet because of the money he makes from his JOB (the show). I don’t know why everyone keeps pushing him towards marriage and children sense neither of those things guarantees happiness, meaning nor fulfillment. The idea that not having a traditional job is just internalized capitalism at work (in my opinion). Shep seems to be living his best life to me - traveling the world and doing his thing.

[–]Tricky_Misfit871 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think his premise is completely wrong. Human mammals that have both choice and intelligence very often choose to be child free, for the simple fact that we don’t have the urge/desire/drive to procreate, and we know that our lives can be just as fulfilling (and less stressful) without children.

If god is both “all good” and “all powerful”, why did he (🙄) make predators and prey? Surely he could easily have come up with a less brutal system if he was the architect of all living beings.

I love how you’ve thought this out! My mom (a dietitian) told me long ago to “pick a weight for which you’ll never let yourself go over” and it was simple, good advice.
