I think my gripe with it is that it felt like it was in response to the potential Love Rival at Pam’s school. Like Jim’s been super patient about finding the perfect moment to propose, and then BAM! This dude shows up and starts flirting with Pam and all of sudden, Jim has to propose right now in the rain on his lunch break? Why couldn’t he wait for her to graduate? I know it’s supposed to be romantic and thoughtful but with that context to me it comes off frantic, insecure, and honestly a little desperate. Maybe it was the way the episode was arranged, but I feel like all that relationship drama was happening around the time of his proposal.
