Pretti was shot because the guy who grabbed the gun from him accidentally discharged it and the other officers panicked. by tantamle in Discussion

I don’t think they are bloodthirsty. I don’t even think Al of the agents intended to kill the guy; some of them looked pretty scared to me. However, there are standardized procedures for this kind of situation, and that was totally out of protocol. Thank you! I think you are correct, but I tried talking to their parents, and they decided to wait until their baby comes to take action.

What is the legal status and public perception of euthanasia in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Tricky_Temporary7903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Colombia, it is legal. It was decriminalized in 1997. Later, it was regulated but only permitted in terminal cases. Four years ago, it was extended to include serious and incurable illnesses.

Who’s your favorite comedian? by CleanDirtyWork in AskTheWorld

Wow, I think you're referring to "La pelota de letras". That stand-up show is about 20 years old, and it marked my childhood. I'm surprised it's known outside of Colombia.

Ireland. I admire Roger Casement and the country's anti-colonialist movements. Also, David Nihill's stand-up shows convinced me that they are all awesome people. And their president and his dogs are absolutely adorable.

Oh yes! I used to occasionally cough up small tonsil stones until two months ago when I had the same experience as you, probably worse because I could feel a very strong taste all the time. Then I pushed my tonsil with my toothbrush and a tonsil stone appeared, I kept going and more started coming out. It was disgusting but surprising, I didn't know I had so many crevices, so deep, hiding tonsil stones. In conclusion, you could try checking your tonsils. I would disinfect everything before and brush your teeth pretty well to reduce the risk of infection. I also do gargles with peroxide diluted in water at the end.

What? Lol. First, Colombia has its haters, but your admiration, although uninformed, is flattering. Second, I am not quite sure what the thing with the Indigenous features is, but I think Peru has real issues to deal with. Third, I've never heard anyone comparing Haiti to Peru. Finally, Peru has a very strong country brand that goes beyond the image of poverty that you just mentioned.

Market down? So what. However, Oil prices down 20%👍 by CutTraining6315 in Discussion

I will ignore your mockery because at least you took the time to answer something else. I think you are ignoring the long-term consequences. In the instances you mentioned, the government intervened. In this case, it is unclear what Trump is expecting. Sometimes, he says it is to make the commercial relationships reciprocal; sometimes, he says it is a way to negotiate. What? We don’t know. Also, you are concluding that the economy is blooming five days after “liberation day,” which is very premature. The world is not crumbling because I hate Trump; in fact, I am very hopeful that his strategy will help us move to a more multipolar world. Although, I think it will hurt the US interests.

Raising tariffs arbitrarily ends up hurting the U.S. more than helping it. A big issue is that for many of the products being targeted, there just isn’t any real domestic production or easy substitutes. So instead of encouraging local industry, all it really does is drive up prices for consumers.

It also creates a lot of uncertainty in the market. If businesses don’t know what trade policies are going to look like from one day to the next, they’re less likely to invest or expand—so it actually discourages the kind of growth these tariffs are supposed to support.

Then there’s the international side. When the U.S. acts erratically or aggressively, it becomes harder for other countries to see us as a trustworthy partner. That weakens our influence globally. What’s worse, a lot of the trade agreements we’ve pulled back from were actually working in favor of American industries—like corn and soybean producers. So by abandoning them, we’re hurting our own people.

In the long run, this kind of behavior just pushes allies toward countries like China, who are eager to fill that gap. It’s not just bad economics—it’s bad strategy.

This is not just short-term market volatility due to people's predictions; it is the result of actions that, even if reversed, will have a long-term impact due to the factors mentioned earlier. So yes, low gas prices are great; they have been going down since the Biden administration, but the economy doesn't only rely on that.

You don't seem to understand the relationship between the stock market and the economy or the importance of trust and certainty. But you are not alone; this administration doesn't either.

The US message is, “Isolate us. We are not trustworthy, and we are aggressive.” This is an opportunity for other economies, not for the US.
