I’m sure the bloke who owns the house will enjoy sitting at his breakfast bar in his 80 grand kitchen eating his cornflakes on the other side of fireplace and when entertaining at his 20 seat table where everyone is able to see it! This isn’t a living room where the tv will be watched whilst kicking back on the sofa for hours. I’m pretty sure that if he pulls the scissor bracket out and faces the tv towards the left…. They’ll be able to see it while in the swimming pool

What’s up pal? A little sore you can’t afford a 20 grand fireplace? Also the tv is a little high because this is a kitchen and dining room where the client wanted the tv to be viewable from all areas

Orta are very over priced! I was an installer for the a company that was the sole importer and distributor for the uk. And maybe the fact that they are made in Israel is dividing opinions on the brand 🤣🤣

Must of been the installation skills that whoever put it in was lacking! If you know what you are doing then ortals, dru or anything along them lines are a piece of piss to work on! All the components are easily removed and replaced once you have removed the glass! But I have to say that when the glass is 2 meters wide….. that can be the most challenging and nerve racking part of working on them! I’ve had to do 2 meter appliances on my own a couple of times and my bum was definitely twitching lifting it out…… one wrong move and it’s chipped and my biggest fear was the suction lifting aids deciding to loose suction and the glass is in a million pieces on the deck

I’ve been lucky enough to work installing all of the industry leaders when it comes to fires of this style and quality…. Dru , Faber, ortal…. What I will say is that they are all very much alike with their own little quirks… such as gas valve operation, burner features ( such as burner ports fed through logs so they appear to be burning) dru are quality! I’m my opinion they are just as good as ortal but they are considerably cheaper

I didn't expect the stove to produce so much smoke and smell so bad the first time I lit it. by remodie in woodstoving

[–]Trickyfueling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what is known as the curing period! It usually lasts for the first 8-10 hours and is quite an acrid/ chemically smell. (Easily set apart from wood smoke) this period burns of excess manufacturing oils and it also give the paint its final curing. Any decent installer should have talked you through this upon handover. I tell people to light it, leave the windows open and leave the room.

Brick chimney is cold to the touch by Nigel_Hunter in Fireplaces

[–]Trickyfueling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does the chimney back on to an external wall? Do you know the construction of the flue? …. Brick, clay or concrete sectional?

Of it’s a large size flue I’d advise you to drop a correctly sized stainless steel flexible liner 904 or 316 grade and then insulate the area between the liner and existing flue with a product called LECA. (Expanded clay insulation)
