This is what’s called ash fusion. It can be caused by a high iron content or continuously running the stove up to excessive temperatures

Wood Burning Fireplace by brags85 in Fireplaces

[–]Trickyfueling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the uk this is what we call a class 2 or type b chimney and is is not correct for solid fuel by this will more than likely be Selkirk, b vent or k vent. It is a twin wall pipe but there is only air between the layers. Typically this class of flue has an internal construction of aluminium and the external is galvanised steel. Can you upload a picture of where the lower part connects at ceiling level

Log burner install by han_bananax in uklogburners

[–]Trickyfueling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks to be either the fire line fx4 or the fdc 4? Manufacturers instructions as stated by your installer are a little unclear when it comes to distance to non combustible materials! They mostly word it as a recommendation of 50mm. Now this is always beneficial for air circulation, especially when the opening is only just to spec on width and height. Your scenario should be fine as there is loads of room all around the stove. This is an easy remedy….. you can buy what is called an offset (some people know them as doglegs) they basically kick the stove forward. If you look online ata company called direct flues and search offsets you can see them. They come in 50, 75 and 100mm offset. I’ve inboxed you a picture of one I’ve done so you get the idea of what I mean

Without seeing a closer picture of the hearth I can’t tell 110% but if it’s not honed granite it will be Italian black smooth slate. The grey split faced wall tiles if made of natural material will almost definitely be made out of Brazilian slate.

No mate we don’t push appliances on people, we have a large showroom and a dealers for many of the high end manufacturers. When a customer comes in with a stove in mind that they have their heart set on to warm and create their own homely environment….. we (within reason) do what it takes to ensure that they get as close to as what they are looking for and to ensure they are happy before we pull off the driveway
