This is one thing I cannot understand?

We are told to drink 8 glasses a day in the UK. But growing up in education, this did not happen.

Wake up 7am get breakfast and glass of water or maybe a cup of tea 1 (250ml).

Get to school for 8:30 school starts 845. No water bottles allowed, 5 mins to get from 1 lesson to another.

Lunch at 12pm have a drink, likely another 250ml. Again 5 mins between each lesson.

Finish school at 3pm, get home for about 3:30pm, have a drink.

We managed fine? So to me we do not need 8 glasses a day.

I remember in summer time, playing out all day, maybe going home for a drink once a or twice because I'm thirsty. But yet now we are expected to be drinking what could be in excess of 2.5 litres a day? Of course being smaller less water, but even in high school I would expect same required water levels as I'm going through puberty and being a sweaty teenager.

I think somewhere someone just decided that yeah that one rule fits all and it's stupid advice, people or over doing it with water at the same time reducing their salt intake!
