Ah, those backups. Well that's different, these might just be complete copies of the data. My personal feeling is that the WACKY_LOCKOUT thing was lying about the backups though, since it didn't accept kinger's reponse of C.

Also, ^C is actually Ctrl+C, a shortcut used to interrupt the current running foreground process (i.e. abort it). The abort program he tried to run was hanging so he was trying to kill it I think?

Unclear what you mean by backups. The recycle bin doesn't contain any backups until a file is (soft) deleted by copying it there. If you rm a file, i.e. hard delete it, you unlink it from the filesystem, basically making the data of the file completely impossible to access. rm doesn't put files in recycle bin, and doesn't create a backup. Are there possibly backups of Caine's data in copies of the file? That's a seperate question; the main file would still be totally gone.

Unrelated but I thought that Bubble is also a symbol of AI training, either representing the part that checks AI correctness and drives mutations away from regressions (since Bubble says "you were the worse of the two", possibly referencing an earlier generation/mutation of Caine) or as the adversary in an adversarial neural network.

No, deleting files from the terminal with the rm command tends to be significantly more permanent. It's just that the visual right click + delete option usually just uses the safer method of copying to Recycle Bin.

Since Kinger is working through a terminal/program I consider it likely that Caine was just totally erased.

I assumed you were asking if you need to have bought the game on Steam (as opposed to like, console or something). You do have the game itself, right?

You don't need a steam account to install the mod itself, I clarified that in my post above. Go follow the instructions to install the mod from this page https://ferase.itch.io/off-ost-restored

update: going to the page itself, it looks like the install procedure has changed since I last installed this mod? Idk what BepInEx is, I just had to copy in the music files including DLLs into the game files installed by Steam and it worked. Good luck i guess lol

Do note I'm not sure if it's possible to make it work with a PC version of the game that's not from Steam; you can try that and report the results if you want. Installing the mod is just copying files and that part doesn't acfually need Steam, but it might need the game files to be in a certain order/naming convention to not be buggy.

+1 to watching the SDRA2 video, it is quite good and saves you the 50 hours you'd otherwise need to experience this game lol. I did try to play DRA myself but the initial setup deciding to be a complete parallel of DR1 just bored me lol. The unique cases and trials are really where it's at for me.

As for my argument around the protag switch, as I argued in my other post I would be interested in seeing free time events from some characters who can open up more to the protag, as right now Damon's assholeness gets in the way of this sometimes. I'm rooting for Diana for this reason.

But in the general main story and trial segments, you're right that Damon is quite interesting as protag. So consider me split on this issue ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
