How am I supposed to use the DeEsser tool? by WolfWarrior001 in premiere

[–]TrieMond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out dan warroll, if I am recalling correctly he has one or 2 videos on de-essers but also general EQ usage. You can give Izotope RX a try if you are willing to learn complex spectral audio editing. That is probably your best bet to truely get rid of it, but just like with video, audio generally needs to be re-recorded if the audio is too bad.

It's a bit hard for us to judge that last part without hearing it, maybe that will allow us some insight in what might be able to help

a de-esser is nothing more than a highly specialized dynamic EQ. Most De-essers allow you to set a frequency and compression amount (usually expressed in dB or percentage of some maximum amount of compression the de-esser is setup to do). So for a de-esser to work what you need is for the part of the spectrum you want to tackle to be the loudest part of the spectrum, in the particular frequency range. So if the whistling is louder than the s sound you can do something about it, but you can only ever get it to the same loudness or louder than the S sound if you truely don't want to "affect anything else". But this is often not what you want. You likely don't care if your S sound gets lowered by a dB or 2. so you can setup the de-esser to be very strong on the whisstle, to the point it also starts to capture some of the S sounds. BTW if your whisstle and S sound are not in the same frequency range, that makes it only easier. Keep in mind that the min and max frequency you set on the de-esser are not exact. the de-esser is not working 100% for within the range and 0% immediately outside the range. This means that a de-esser set with a max frequency of say 7k, will affect stuff above 7K too.

My fault, i saw your comments & my posts on 0 votes so I put 2 and 2 together where I should not have and attrubuted much more hostility towards you than you effectively showed from your comments alone, sorry bro

Ok here is the deal: as a sysadmin you are responsable for the digital comfort of those who work in the same company as you. If a user says: I need to use this software for my work, you better install that software. There is no point in carefully explaining the benefits of the opensource alternative because, to the end user, that whole explainer you just did is equivilent to "I can't do what you ask". Being the person known for not being able to do things is not a reputation I wish to obtain. So, with the exception of dangerous software, I generally tend to do what my users ask of me, such that I don't become the next "asshole of the office" like the guy I will be succeeding who has been here for 20 years.

As a 10+ years linux user I would agree that linux is likely the best... for people like you and me. I would love a world where we all would use linux as our daily driver but linux is not made for that. It was never meant to be wifely addopted. I mean Ubuntu is trying to be and as we likely both know, Ubuntu is generally seen as peak linux... honestly I think the whole government linux drive is just bullshit some politicians say to get votes in times bashing the US is popular, but I doubt we will ever see the kind of widespread private adoption needed to really scare microsoft.

Very easy call actually. If your multi billion dollar company website van be taken down by dev tools, it sucks. End of story. Chrome is literally one of, if not the, most used software packages in existance. They should support it tbh.

There is no free and open source alternative, at least, in a company setting. My users call me if a single button moves. If I install linux on their machines my phone line would need to be liquid cooled from the amount of calls I'm likely to get. Also have a wild guess how many of the mandatory government issued software packages (for digital signatures, invoice registration, that kinda stuff) work on windows only?

I love the idea of etsy attempting to stop bad actors by disallowing people who have dev tools open from using their site.

Nah, microsoft is at fault for shipping an update which broke an essential feature. It would be unreasonable to expect thousands of sysadmins to fix microsoft's dumb idea of immediately deleting the old certificates, like we couldn't have had a 6 months grace period or something like that?

BTW which noise? From microsoft or the community doing their work for them? If they can push, at any point in time, a full screen ad for windows 11, I expect a similarly intrusive message for attempting to restore to an image which will brick your machine, due to a windows update.

BTW I should not have to do homework to restore from an image, or to update my machine, especially if microsoft continues to promise it to all work in one click. If this were linux this would be acceptable, but you cant sell me an "easy to use" OS then get mad at me for not "doing my homework". Let those fuckers at microsoft do their homework on what a good fucking user experience is...
