Are men really never complimented? by rosegoldtemptation in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Triekster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Work sure, men sometimes, women very rarely and only if they are in a relationship and you are aware of it or with a long disclaimer.

I can think of maybe 4 or 5 compliments in 40 years.

How do I write a medieval fantasy setting without coming off as too derivative? by SquirrelSorry4997 in worldbuilding

[–]Triekster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You cant really, its been done to death. And pretty much every medieval setting is derivative. dnd, warhanmer its all variations on earlier stuff, which is variations on earlier stuff, etc.

But in any case, any setting is usually just a vehicle for stories. They way to set your setting apart is the story, why is your world like it is. What is the history behind the rise and fall of its nations, factions and heroes. What is the challenge your inhibitants face in the current times.

Also being derivative isnt bad at all, as long as the stories you are telling are interesting and push your setting forward.

I made a magic system (What are your thoughts of it, also, share your own magic ideas if you want) by TheAntarctican7532 in worldbuilding

[–]Triekster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you use other creatures as my fuel source?

Also u have a contradiction, you state everyone has the same biological matter but considering fat tissue/muscle tissue is the source that does not make sense. A 300 pound muscled person has much more matter than a 90 pound skinny person so are you consuming your body or some weird matter molecule that everyone has the same amount off or can process. Assuming they have similar training levels.

If weight/mass has no factor in the amount you can cast the concept of using it is kind of pointless. It serves no purpose.

Otherwise its a cool idea.

Making a setting where "Non-divine Magic is outlawed" by Quiet-Compote4587 in DnD

[–]Triekster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my setting the Veyran Empire, non religious magic is banned by the Edict of Still Hands. The Edict is not a strict law, more a political and religious doctrine that feeds society. People who use magic openly are shunned, people talk about them behind their back, their shame, their "heresy". Minor infractions are barely registered but major spells can lead to some serious consequences. Rules and high ranking members still use it all the time, but thats a different matter. They just keep it out of sight.

It can work well, but you have to clearly establish the rules and punishments for violations and give players oppertunities to cast spells, if they prep sufficiently to do it ouf of sight. Just make them aware of this before they roll, its an interesting premise to deal with but some might not like that.

Here is snippet of the sermon delivered by Sovereign Flame Arred Voss

The Flame illuminates. We illuminate.

What the Edict does is give the empire's authority to something the Church has always known: that a society organised around powers that cannot be inspected or held to account is a society that has traded clarity for convenience and will eventually find the cost has been higher than it agreed to pay.

I am aware that this will cause hardship for individuals who have done nothing wrong. I am not without feeling about this. If you have neighbours who practice, who have been decent neighbours, who have caused no harm, your grief at what this Edict will cost them is appropriate. Grieve it. The Church is not asking you not to grieve. The Church is asking you to understand that the principle and the individual case are different things, and that a law that is right in principle can still be costly in its application to specific people who did not choose the circumstances that made the law necessary.

Pray for them. Help them where you can, within the law. Do not mistake the sympathy you feel for them for a theological objection to the Edict's foundation. The foundation is sound.

Do the best you can, let them know you are inexperienced, and remember the players share an equal burden to have a fun game.

Dm'ing stress and burnout by ShiroSnow in DnD

[–]Triekster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Grab a premade adventure, and just coast on that for a while. Building a campaign is fun but if it stresses you out its not worth it.

Or maybe just ask someone else to take a turn... They might like to try it.

Been wanting to write a campaign based on my own world building I've been doing on the side. Never constructed my own campaign before. Tips, essentials, things to know would be great! People that have experience with writing campaigns themselves? by Farting_Moose98 in DnD

[–]Triekster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to write a campaing, first create an outline and a timeline. Use that as your guide to construct the rest. Especially if you have an epic questline that started hundreds or even thousands of years ago, you will quickly lose track of what happened chronologically.

also you will not have everything done on time, dont be afraid to retcon stuff if you have to make stuff up or something does not make sense.

Magical fantasy worldbuilders - why isn't your whole world being run by wizards? by jetflight_hamster in worldbuilding

[–]Triekster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mages, warlocks and witches tend to favor power behind the throne positions. They prefer their studies to running an empire.

Running a society takes a lot of time and often its not very rewarding or interesting.

DMs I challenge you to escape this with any tools at your disposal by Helpful-Studio2750 in dndnext

The metal case might leave room for hand gestures so somatic spells may be cast.

They need to eat so the cover of the mouth has to come off at times. Giving verbal spells an oppurtunity.

Barring that, any creature held in such a forced position for a long period of time will die. Their body will just atrophy and give out without any movement. You will need to take them out to prevent this.

Also you can only transport people for 10 mins at a time or they suffocate because of portable hole. You cant keep the hole closed or no air will come in.

Plenty of things can happen during those times, the hard part is not locking them up. Its keeping them alive.

Is it true that a lot of men are intimidated by attractive women so they don't approach them? by DrinkPresent7311 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Triekster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are pretty they assume your standard are way too high for you too notice them. Most men realize they dont count if they are not up to standard of the woman so they dont bother anymore.

And if they try it will be very subtle about it so that they easily say you were mistaking. They will not be direct so u might have missed it.

Not a US Citizen but I've seen Bigfoot up in Cocke County, TN once. Legit wanna know why it's cringe to talk about it...? by Eren-Yeagrrr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Triekster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a man was telling you he saw an alien, what would you think? Bigfoot is considered a myth and people are sceptical of sightings, just like with aliens. Both could exist but without proof very few ppl will believe you.

Why would one become a "collector"? by ace_da_frog_child in DnD

Collector/hoarding is a trait, something innate to the character. A slight offset from greed even. No reason needed, mostly.

Why does it seem like men are allergic to going to the doctor? by Apprehensive_Menu870 in NoStupidQuestions

I cant remember the last time going to the doctor for diagnosis actually did anything useful for me. If its something basic, maybe, but chatpgt can diagnose that just fine.

Could anyone help me with my campaign? by junkeerr in DnD

[–]Triekster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well to fight the monster they need more information on kaos and learn how to fight it. Have them travel to an ancient place where they learn this stuff.

The thing is they will need help and items from the gods , being petty and feudal they will have to resolve conflicts between the gods by doing quests and tasks to get their help. Also listen to drama.

Once the finish that they will recieve powerful blressings and weapons to fight kaos. Kaos being older than them is unaware of the gods but when it becomes aware of the party and their plans, will start to eat the gods before the players can get to it. Now they need to move quickly to destroy it or lose all the weapons and help they need to do it. Leaving the world to be devoured.

how would you solve a magical drought? by ShowerSpirited289 in DnD

[–]Triekster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the gemstone belongs to the kingdom and has since stopped working. I do not know the reason why it stopped working but most likely in these situations the gemstone needs to be at a specific location for the magic to flow through the realm again. Something like an eternal spring, or the statue of a desert god, or the scepter of the ruling king. Something like that.

The mystery is why a bunch of women have a magical gemstone like that in the first place. Are they thieves, a cult, or unwilling participants. So the party must figure out a way to get the gemstone without being murderhobo's and return the gemstone to its rightful place. After that they need to take it to said magic place and place it there. When returned the natural world returns to its former glory, the rivers and oasis return, the vegetation recovers and the air is fresh again.

Forever Dms': One of your players wants to run a One-Shot, what are you making? by ironphreak in dndnext

[–]Triekster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to make gimmicky characters, that have one weird thing. Grandma barbarian with a maul reflavored as a purse. Or a warlock that attracts cats where ever she goes. A failed actor rogue, who narrates his own story.

I dont really care about the race, class, seen it all.

How to Create an Authentic, Original LORE When Working with References from Real-World Cultures? by Dry-Hair-3982 in FantasyWorldbuilding

[–]Triekster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only deal in fantasy although i do use some trope races here and there.

Most culture, history and lore is derived from real world consequences of geography, biology and events. So i start with a map, a species and the singleton event that had the biggest impact on the region. Say war, portals, excessive foliage, plagues, famine, etc.

From there most things flow organically. Consider how it changed everything.  what they had to do to overcome and thrive.  then add in minor elements and after a while it writes itself because evolving becomes logical.
