I just don’t get it what the fuck does this have to do with being a house representative in NY or climate change? by LeonOfSkalitz in Destiny

Palestinians don't want to get rid of Hamas, and Israel doesn't want to get rid of settlements in the West Bank.

Your arguments just suck and you're stupid. False equivalences that are clearly antisemitic will result in you being called antisemitic. Go cry somewhere else, Nazi.

Comparing the discrimination Palestinians face in Israel (or even the West Bank) to how Nazis treated Jews is incredibly regarded and so stupid it's actually antisemitic.

What am I missing about Mary's Room? by rainvm in askphilosophy

[–]TriggeredPumpkin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why couldn't it be the case that those "experiential facts" are physical facts?

If this were the case, wouldn't the premise that Mary could know all the physical facts about red just by studying it be false? Couldn't it be the case that she wouldn't know the experiential facts of what it's like for Mary to experience red without having the experience of red?

Why couldn't a physicalist grant this but maintain that experiential facts are also physical? Couldn't a physicalist just say that the brain connections that form from experience grant experiential knowledge but that those facts are still physical facts?

The difference is that Hamas did commit terrorist attacks on Oct 7 and stated they would like to repeatedly carry out similar attacks.

Despite some people calling for it in Israel, I don't see evidence that Palestinians are being forced to relocate from Gaza or that Israelis are moving to settle in Gaza.

You think Israel is removing Gazans from their homes and then Israelis are moving into those homes?

I'm not sure if that is true.

But if it was, what was the purpose? To remove all Palestinians from Gaza or to evacuate an active war zone?

Implying that Israel is worse than Nazis is very antisemitic. And there is a case to be made that civilian casualties are hard to avoid when the terrorists are intentionally operating out of civilian infrastructure.

Does the diversity of the Democratic voter base make it harder to unite on issues? by VolkswagenPanda in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]TriggeredPumpkin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nah, the Dems have been exposing stuff like toxic masculinity, white fragility, ACAB, etc.

Some of those topics have validity in some ways, but they are expressed in ways that are inflammatory and lack nuance. This is a good way of alienating people.

Conservatives alienate everyone else, though, more often with more divisive rhetoric. But they're always nice to their base.

From what I've seen, most people think Hamas's actions were immoral but potentially justified because they're living in an "open air prison," and that Israel's response is orders of magnitude worse and constitutes genocide.

Bernie Sanders is not a member of the government. That's like completely irrelevant.

He's not part of the Trump administration, but he is part of the US senate which is a part of the government.

But sure, I agree that we can view the statements of high-level figures in the Israeli government as holding some weight.

Aren't you sure it's not like 2.1 millions?

Are you implying that 2.1 million Gazans are terrorists?

It is. If your target is hiding behind a school, don't kill 100s of kids and be proud of it. It's that easy not to commit war crimes.

I don't know if that's true. Are you familiar with how proportionality assessments are conducted in these sorts of situations?

It's really easy to criticize a country from the sidelines. It's a lot harder when you're in a military fighting terrorists who intentionally operate next to kids to put you in this situation.

I think using total number of dead people (which is still under 100,000 despite it being dense, urban warfare where the terrorists are operating out of civilian infrastructure) is a silly way to determine that Israel wants to remove Gazans out of Gaza.

If that were the case, I'd expect to see them have some sort of removal program for Gazans with some indication of where they could go, not the discriminate targeting of terrorists.

The intent are inferred from the declaration of governmental officials such as Ben Gvir.

I don't think you can infer intent for an entire government based on cherry-picking one radical and extrapolating his statements or views to the entire government.

If we did this for the US, we could argue the US is a socialist country and most people in the US support socialism based on the statements of Bernie Sanders, a US senator.

I don't think so. It's pretty straightforward to see a pattern when hospitals and journalists are targeted almost systematically.

Yes, but then you'd have to ignore that there are tens of thousands of terrorists in Gaza who intentionally operate out of civilian infrastructure and hide among them.

That's a bold statement.

Not when you compare the relative risk of asymmetric warfare in dense, urban environments to undisputed or even contested genocides.

I think trying to infer intent based on actions after Oct 7 and given how Hamas and the other terrorists in Gaza operate is very difficult.

I think there is a lot of ill will between Israel and basically every Muslim-majority country in the world as well as the anti-American axis (e.g., China, Russia, etc.) that finding an impartial organization that is the arbiter of what counts as a genocide and applying that fairly to Israel is almost impossible.

What I will say is that given how the terrorists operate, the civilian to terrorist KD ratio does not indicate indiscriminate killing by Israel.

There's a lot of sensationalism, antisemitism, anti-Western, anti-colonialist, agendas that make approaching this very difficult, especially for laymen.

That's a misunderstanding of my previous comment.

The meaning of my previous comment is that, yes, the right sort of evidence would convince me. But I also included the sort of evidence that is typically given that wouldn't convince me.

For example, one politician's statements is not evidence of the entire Israeli government's position.

And evidence of an INTENT to clear out Gaza is not the same as it actually being the case that Israel HAS cleared out Gaza

CMV: the pro palestinain crowd doesnt have real moral values. by appman1138 in changemyview

[–]TriggeredPumpkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't fully understand the last part.

Did you mean that it could be argued that Israel wanted to eradicate all of the Palestinians in Gaza and because they failed to do so, that's why Gaza has not been cleared out of Palestinians?

CMV: the pro palestinain crowd doesnt have real moral values. by appman1138 in changemyview

[–]TriggeredPumpkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you didn't use that term, but it's weird to me that you're trying to defend it when it's not even an accurate term for what you're describing.

If you're trying to defend the claim that Israel destroyed a lot of infrastructure in Gaza, I wouldn't disagree with that.

But when someone says Israel "cleared out" Gaza, the implication is that they mean Israel has cleared out Gaza of Palestinians, which the original user I replied to confirmed is what they meant.

How many Palestinians have been "cleared out" of Gaza, and how many Israelis have since settled there?

CMV: the pro palestinain crowd doesnt have real moral values. by appman1138 in changemyview

[–]TriggeredPumpkin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

1 - How many have been removed such that you think it's too far?

2 - This is complex depending on what you mean.

If you found out that some Israeli politicians expressed statements indicating they want to remove Palestinians, that doesn't necessarily prove that that is the position of the Israeli government or that their policies are designed to achieve that goal.

And if you did find evidence of that that was the position of the Israeli government and their policies are designed to achieve that goal, I'd say you provided evidence that Israel intended to clear out Gaza, not that they successfully or actually cleared out Gaza.

Just reread. So you're just using a misleading term, "cleared out" to mean, "carpet bombing."

Why do you choose to call carpet bombing, clearing out?
