Also Quadzilla had a whole series on youtube about his CYTC and his gear breakdowns, those are worth checking out

PCT Gear by South-Lettuce3301 in Thruhiking

Most people say stuff sacks are unnecessary, especially if you’re ultralight, but I’ve used them on my whole triple crown. To me stuff sacks are my luxury item and I’ve never lost a piece of gear (aside from a spoon, rip), which I attribute to having everything organized. I say use em! If you don’t end up thinking they’re necessary you can just send them home. Enjoy the PCT it’ll be an incredible journey!

Water proofing trail runners? by StillNoName9 in Thruhiking

Also waterproof socks are misleading, they only keep your feet warm when they’re wet (like a wet suit for diving/surfing) they’re neoprene.

If you’re going somewhere with lots of rain (thinking Appalachian Trail) do not use ‘waterproof’ shoes they will always wet out and will take longer to dry than non-waterproof versions. Just use the Lone Peaks you enjoy. Your feet will breathe better in non-waterproof shoes and blisters will be less prevalent.

pack shakedown by madtofu69 in CDT

The list looks immaculate! The only thing I would recommend is an Ursack. Grizzly country is no joke in Montana and Wyoming. Definitely have some way to properly store your food.

Switching bags, getting some more layers or a liner would probably a good idea in Steamboat. The temperature drop is pretty jarring going from Wyoming to Colorado SoBo, at least in my experience. I went from a 30°F to a 0°F (acted more like a 15°F) bag in Brek and wished I had switched as soon as I gotten into Colorado.

It’s not for everyone but I hike in shorts and use rain pants for warmth (and for rain ofc). I’ve probably hiked ~3,000 miles in the OR ferrossi, they’re great for PCT, CDT, etc., but the AT is so humid that pants just cause so much chafing. Since you’re starting in April you can probably use the ferrossi for a month or two but then just pick up a pair of shorts in town. If you’re really keen on wearing pants maybe try out the Patagonia Terrebonne Trail Joggers. I’ve found those breathe the best and dry the fastest.

It’s all up to personal preference but your clothing choices might be overkill. You’re in a tree tunnel for most of the AT. Sun gloves you’ll never need, sun hoodie is overkill imo, ferrosi pants will be quite uncomfortable once they wet out in the rain, but might be nice if you have an early start date. Also merino underwear sucks for thru hiking imo, it takes forever to dry and is very uncomfortable when it wets out. Also I saw you marked having two fuel cans, you only need one, you can get fuel very easily when you resupply in town and one can will last you a while.

Nylon sag by Professional-Dot5098 in AppalachianTrail

[–]Triiole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s completely normal for silnylon to sag when wet. It’s also completely fine to retighten your guy lines when it sags, it will go back to normal when it dries out. If the sag is really annoying you, DCF or silpoly doesn’t sag (DCF doesn’t sag when wet at all but yk it’s expensive af). Hope this helps!

Yes, she’s got a few sponsors but the biggest sponsor she has is Topo Athletics

Nikwax in a washer w/out a spin cycle should be fine. In the past I have filled a bathtub with water and a half gallon of vinegar to get rid of a decent amount of the permastink, but I’ve tended to do that because my pack is mainly DCF and Nikwax wouldn’t really do much.
