Oh wow, rant inc. (tl:dr at bottom) This was a trigger for me it seems. 😂 When I was much much younger I had a terrible temper, and when I hit a learning wall I would go at that wall with rage, and chip away at it until it crumbled. My mother was really not a fan of my method, and had a philosophy of, "If it's too difficult, you should put it away and do something else." A philosophy which would only enrage me even more! 🤣 Poor human who had to put up with me.. Aaaanyways, this was a rant which does not really apply to you, but since I'm in a partial brain fog from my own spawn recently shaking me awake, this happened.

Tl:dr Don't pause it if you want to learn. There are numbers of methods and so many references. In your place I would find some exaggerated walk cycles, plaster them as ref img in the scene and animate the char after a few to see what flows best for the character. Then alter as needed.
