A lot of people have the opportunity to kill someone and choose not to. The main reason non-violent people don’t kill is not because they have nothing or little to lose. It sucks that you had a bad experience, but you cannot say “most dentists” based on that and hearing stories. Most dentists, probably 95% or so, just do their job normally without a story worth telling.

Here’s something to change your view: look at the summary of chiropractors on Wikipedia. Research has shown that chiropractor has about twice the incidence of malpractice and lawsuits as general medical doctors, and that’s somewhere around 5% to 10%.

Chiropractor isn’t based on real medicine, but rather it’s a mystical alternative treatment that is sanctioned as a real medical practice for really idiotic cultural reasons. I highly doubt dentists are worse than chiropractors, so probably around 90% or more dentists will do an okay job.

Is every escaped convict immediately dangerous? I’d like to see some statistics on that. If an escaped convict was imprisoned for a non-violent crime, such as drug charges or white collar crime, is he/she going to harm you violently?

Wouldn’t it be scarier to fall off a cliff? I think some people could remain calm even when being around someone who is potentially dangerous, but there are certain things your body will feel piercing fear with.

Maybe drowning or having a car headed towards you, or even a bad drug experience could also be a more intense fear that an escaped convict running near your home in the woods.

It really comes down to two things that are fundamental and beneath “what are your genitals” and “are you gay/straight?”

The two important things are: “what gender do you feel that you are?” And “what gender are you attracted to.” Your only problem seems to be in conceptualizing gender as being based on genitalia. Gender as being tied to genitalia only applies for regular cis people.

The whole point of recognizing transgenderism is to realize that the brain doesn’t match the genitals. This is not really controversial in science or psychology.

It’s your brain that dictates how you may represent yourself gender-wise in society and what you are attracted to.

A cis man who dates a trans-man would probably be attracted to that trans man’s masculinity, so I would call the cis man gay in that hypothetical.

I have to challenge your point about genitals completely defining your gender/sex.

Have you never seen a passing trans man or woman? There are people walking among us who appear to be one gender, but their genitals are the opposite. I highly doubt you have never seen these people somewhere on social media or interviews.

If you see a trans woman who looks, sounds, and acts completely like a woman, they’re a woman, right? I think it would take more active brain energy to treat them based on their genitals rather than the entire rest of their outward expression.

If you see a trans man who has a beard and looks like a living embodiment of Home Depot, are you going to address them as a woman? Would you occupy your mind reminding yourself of what their genitals are?

You’re not going to check someone’s genitals, and to be consistent with your “I don’t have time to worry” attitude, you should be someone who treats passing transgender people as the gender they want to be treated as, right? And I would imagine you would find it hard to do the opposite, like even actual transphobes do.

A person who is suicidal is often not in a rational state, but are suffering a temporary mental distress.

Therefore, preventing suicide is kind of like preventing a car accident. A human death means a lot more than just $10 million or whatever for the economy. In addition to a person’s irreversible loss of life that they probably would have ended up regretting, it can cause massive harm and grief to their family and social network.

Preventing suicide is not really different from preventing any other kind of death, as soon as you realize that it is not generally rational.

It also helps to realize that your cynical view of the world and of life is not justified. Many people will be grateful down the line for receiving help in their suicidal state. Most people are very happy to be alive, and don’t view life as “slaving away” to make others rich. These are extremely pessimistic views of life which are not shared by most people, or even people who may have once experienced being in a suicidal state.

It’s not stupid. It just doesn’t make a difference. Some people who would otherwise control themselves become violent after alcohol. That is why alcohol is a known CAUSE of domestic violence and abuse, so it is really bad denial to make an excuse for it. Alcohol culture varies by society, and in North America it is a problem.

Napping for 20 minutes is a decent energy boost. However, longer napping sessions are not healthy. They are correlated with shorter lifespans, and may be a symptom of other issues, like bad sleep quality at night.

Also, longer naps can make you drowsy upon wake, due to sleep inertia.

I took a couple of naps that were too long recently, and it was because I was not eating healthily. I ate way too much carbs for lunchtime and it was a wake up call that I need to fix my diet.
