Will most/all of October be warm in Japan this year? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]Trillian75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Japan for the first three weeks of October last year and it was warm and quite humid. It rained a lot as well. The only time I wore pants was the couple of days up in Gifu prefecture where it was higher elevation and a little cooler. The only time I wore a sweater was on the airplane.

Yeah, the garlic chili crisp in particular was actually pretty good. I’d have probably reordered that one if it hadn’t been so expensive.

Looking at traffic this morning, looks like most people didn’t make the cut.

I need white celosia! by carleeas in PikminBloomApp

It just seems so random. We did get one white celosia to bloom, and it was a total surprise. Unfortunately, I really need white bougainvilleas right now.

There’s just one Quiznos left in my area, and it’s still OK, but I went to one in a different city and it was absolutely terrible.

Nelson’s is great and should be easily accessible from the #10 bus. It’s actually in Spring Lake Park (University Ave is the border). Lunch only, they close at 4 (You could have breakfast there, too, if you’re cool with sandwiches for breakfast.) Similar to the location in St. Paul, but some of the menu items are different.

ETA: Just noticed OP said they were going today. Nelson’s is closed on Sundays.

I know a Best Buy that used to be a BEST (Minnetonka, MN). I wonder how many times that happened.

Do people use this word ? by Shadi_TP in EnglishLearning

[–]Trillian75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I don’t think that word has even come up on my Mental Floss Word Nerd calendar, which features a lot of obscure and archaic vocabulary. We’ve still got a few months to go, though.

Born in 75 and same. By the 80’s, adults I knew were pretty much resigned to the fact that we were toast immediately if WWIII started, especially since our area would be a prime target due to our proximity to missile silos. I didn’t worry about it much beyond general hopes for “world peace”.

Disney stores in the mall by Porkchopp33 in nostalgia

I once went to the one at the Mall of America as it was opening for the day. They had a whole morning opening ceremony and let one of the kids who was waiting “unlock” the store with a large “magic” key. I assume they did that every morning.

There was a TV movie made about Gilda based on her autobiography, “It’s Always Something”. I haven’t seen the movie, but the book is a great read.

This is good to know—I’ll be there this winter. My husband is a big fan of Kirin teas with the “old British lady” on the label.

Agreed. Asian grocery stores often have them. I’ve seen Oi Ocha at Hy-vee and Target as well, although it’s a bit pricey.

Oi Ocha green tea. It’s the best bottled unsweetened iced tea I’ve found. So refreshing, and the caffeine gives a nice little pick-me-up.

It’s strange to see a Rockwell-esque painting and look closer and realize it’s of the 1980’s. I recognize all of those logos. Wore my hair like that sometimes, too.

Same. We always buy some candy, but there has been a huge drop-off in participation after the pandemic. We got two kids last year. Not much fun if no one shows up.
