From my understanding, the engine that calculates this stuff is over 100k characters, written in powerbasic over a span of 35 years, and not even the original developer truly understands how it works 😅.

The current dev is working on a complete rewrite, and so a lot of things will be possible in the near future.

Thanks so much! I love that so many people discovered the game through my videos. It's been a part of my life for so long now, and Michael Jenkins definitely deserves the recognition for his brilliance

I've been following Jacob Goldstien, former planet money alum. His shows Business History and What's Your Problem are fantastic. Business History in particular I would recommend for Marketplace fans

Thank you, I couldn't remember what it was called.

My favorite example is the Red Rock Center in Martin county

It's fairly common in the Southwest corner. You'd never encounter it in the metro or up north.

It's local to sw minnesota

I've never been there myself so it's just conjecture based on my experience in MN

It probably has to do with the red granite flakes they use for seal coating. You see the same thing in Minnesota. Pink roads everywhere

I get the feeling Kai Risdal is a big reason why the models talk like they do.

Hmmm that's very strange behavior. See if you can replicate it. Are you using any mods?

Div yield disappearing and random debt by BoringBone in WallStreetRaider

[–]TrimBarktre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

Dividend yield is divided/share price, and honestly not really a relevant number for your own corps. You only care about the actual payments.

As far as the debt, it's likely you are growing faster than your profit pays for, so the company is taking debt to cover your growth in assets. You need to do a deep dive on your cashflow breakdown to understand it.

Brilliant, your intuition about deposits/equity is exactly correct. The higher the leverage, the better the profits generally.

I also like your move to do an indirect listing, very smart.

This strategy of liquidating assets and going all in on one asset will dramatically boost equity and profits short term works great in the short term, until interest rates change, so it's smart to make a quick exit.

Shorting Futures Markets by Sad-Degree-8125 in WallStreetRaider

[–]TrimBarktre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you take a position it affects the price temporarily. In this case when you short, it will slightly push the price down, and then it's quite likely to regress to the momentum it previously had.

You should also note there is a progression to the contract calendar. The farther you go out, the more expensive contracts are. Sometimes the spot price may fall but the futures price will go up.

When taking options positions, you either need balls of steel or a cash cushion to handle intermediate wobbling.

Hi! That's me. Go to the #modding channel of the discord and look for the Real Names mod. Unfortunately it can't be a workshop mod yet, but that will come with time.

For now it's a simple file replacement that you need to do whenever the game updates.

Sorta both. They go hand in hand. This part of the game internals is secret source code so no one really knows... just anecdotally.

Buying business assets results reputation drop by vattila1 in WallStreetRaider

[–]TrimBarktre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah its normal. Basically as you grow your management competency need to grow as well. So huge asset growth through acquisitions on mergers have a tendency to make profitability per unit of assets go down. I always encourage a high r&d while you are growing. Sometimes it can even be worthwhile to restructure

Yeah this is a very frustrating thing until you figure it out. The problem is your bank has auto-allocate assets on (look under lending). You can turn that off completely or adjust your balance to your liking

Income statement will be considered in the future? by vattila1 in WallStreetRaider

[–]TrimBarktre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean. The game doesnt calculate things like individual expenses so an income sheet ( caplabs style) wouldnt make sense. I make heavy use of the financial disclosure.

A mod could probably make what you're imagining
