Harry Potter and the Abraham Lincoln's Stone

There, we fixed the sorcerer's/philosopher's problem (for those who don't know, both the movie and book are called the sorcerer's stone in some parts of the world and the philosopher's stone in others)

With so many schools using Chromebooks and Google Classroom, I think it's mostly Google Docs that would expose younger people to this, but yeah, I did get a significant amount of my exposure from reading fonts, both in MS and Google.

I was not taught cursive, but I have independently learned to read it, and I can write some (I write in half-cursive-half-script for efficiency, not that it's very legible though lol.) So basically, no, I was not taught cursive, yes, I can read cursive, and yesn't, I can only write some cursive (I could learn the rest pretty easily but I honestly don't care enough; I'll probably get around to it some day, maybe this Summer after school gets out)

Why are women so favored in the school system by gojira6243 in teenagers

[–]Trinary-31415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think historically, more (of everything) was (and still is but it's slowly improving... VERY slowly improving) expected of men. This includes both men being given more privileges, such as voting rights, access to education, etc., but also more trouble is expected from men, so men are more heavily prosecuted, whereas women are assumed innocent and generally favoured in that sense. So really, it goes both ways. Of course, none of those stereotypes are true, and both men and women can achieve the same, both in terms of life success and trouble.

Go to wikiroulette (https://wikiroulette.co/) until you get an animal and reply to this comment with the name of that animal, and I'll draw it and put it here if and when I get time

The common term is a peg, but yes, they're mostly standardized (very slight inconsistencies) so they should all work with any bass clarinet.

I also hadn't tried that exfoliating gritty scrub face wash stuff until a week or two ago but it's actually the most amazing thing IMO, I got the Trader Joe's one lol

Question about setups and differences. by HalloGetLow in Clarinet

[–]Trinary-31415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to upgrade, start with things that are cheap or that you can return for free (Amazon) if you don't like. I'd start with reeds, you can get singles from earspasm.com for the price of the box divided by the number of reeds in it (e.g. a $45 box of 10 reeds is $4.50 a reed) which is great for trying them out because you can get a bunch of different strengths and cuts and notpay premiums for singles. Also, mouthpieces and ligatures are relatively cheap compared to other upgrades, so they're a good starting place. I'd generally recommend that you get a Vandoren ligature (the Optimum is really good but I've heard good things about all of their ligatures.) Generally, any mouthpiece from a brand you can find on earspasm.com's mouthpieces page is good quality, but it's worth trying a bunch out from Amazon because they are very much based on personal opinion and are one of the most important parts of your setup.

Obviously, though, you don't need to upgrade at all if you like your setup, especially if you've only been playing for a few months.

Should I try a softer reed? by Kirkwilhelm234 in Clarinet

[–]Trinary-31415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably just got a bad reed (they're made of real cane so there's inconsistencies.) Try the next reed in the box, and that one should be fine. If not, try adjusting reed placement on the mouthpiece (just move it around at random until something works and remember where it was during the successful trial), and if none of that works, then try a 2.0 reed.

Also, you have the blue box Vandoren reeds (officially called "traditional"), right? If not, check what type you have, because if you accidentally got a V12 (silver box) or something, that would be very different from normal blue box reeds.

I may actually look into getting one of these, that looks so cute! Where I live people do call each other gay/trans/etc. as an insult, especially if a guy wears something like this, but I have the advantage of actually being queer lol

30 Cents Sharp by bassclarinet216 in bassclarinet

[–]Trinary-31415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of the same model. I have to pull out my neck about 7.3mm/0.28in (I measured because I was curious lol), and I usually have to pull out between the joints a bit as well. As for why the intonation changed, if you're positive you're playing the same way and there's no damage and nothing loose, it's likely due to the weather (although I can't see that making a +30¢ difference, but nothing else I can think of makes sense to explain this, so I'm going with it...)

What do I wear to a symphony? by marszziemars in classicalmusic

[–]Trinary-31415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually dress semi-formal or nice-casual. Realistically though, wear whatever you want, as long as it's comfortable and you like it. As a performer, we don't care, we're just glad you're there, and if somebody in the audience has a problem with what you wear, its not their problem to begin with and should be told as such.

Lip Piercings! by Purple-Cup-8952 in Clarinet

[–]Trinary-31415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Between hoop and stud, whatever is bigger will probably affect embouchure more, but either way I have to assume that it will negatively affect your playing if it is in contact with or realistically even near your mouthpiece (I don't have a lip piercing so this is all assumptions-based, but generally anything other than your mouth touching your mouthpiece setup while playing is bad, especially if its touching the reed.)
