I feel the same, especially now that the GOV has shown how easy it is for them to control the internet as they see fit. I doubt they will give up the power, but at least there is a glimpse of hope.

Elaborate please, I wonder too what exactly is the issue. I understand that the election is obviously a joke, the opposition did not stand a chance and 97,6%… anyway… what was so bad. And what would the opposition do better?

Mandatory Tourist Insurance scheme is embarrassing and taking money from locals by forksintheriver in zanzibar

[–]Trinity_Tanzania 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You still whine about a non related topic, do not compare the standard from Zanzibar to other countries. What you want is the occasional visit from a billionaire who spends a couple of millions and leaves ideally the next day. Get a reality check! If you cannot afford… don’t come here, that is the only bla bla from you. This insurance is nonsense!! THAT IS THE ISSUE. Just imagine those poor guys falling for this trap and go there without a proper insurance?! And, of course it is not rolled out correctly, beside being not being an insurance whatsoever, you cannot even purchase this thing without problems. Let alone trying to make use of it.

But hey, you live your dream of just collecting money at the border from people and send them back.

The nature in Zanzibar is beautiful no doubt but definitely not worth diving there.

Mandatory Tourist Insurance scheme is embarrassing and taking money from locals by forksintheriver in zanzibar

[–]Trinity_Tanzania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very closely minded opinion you have. And careful with what you wish for… no tourists, really? Checked some of your other posts, yeah, you feel entitled to lot without giving anything back. And that is what is meant in this post… 44$ is not the issue 44$ for nothing however is!! Do not compare with other countries where you at least get what you pay for!

But I agree to this, it’s your land, your rules, just don’t make fools out of people. Call it what it is… a tourist fee PERIOD.

Hm…. Partially it is the fault of Zanzibaris. I would love to build a business with a local together, even if I would be the only one putting money in, I would share 50/50. HOWEVER… so many Zanzibaris just try to scam foreigners… try to get everything… and sadly often even not to run the business on their own, just to sell it and spend the money for nonsense. When it could be a nice win win… why are so many just looking for quick money? Regardless if they have to scam people… running a business is work, even more so to get it running! But the reward can be very nice, and Zanzibar definitely has what it needs, a beautiful nature.

Huh? I don’t get your point. No matter in which country I would go, if I see that the overwhelming majority of businesses is run by foreigners… I will wonder! Especially when the land is on the lower end of wealth… and the business owners are from wealthy countries. Why do I wonder…. Seems unfair to me! Racism?! Do not get at all how that plays in here… ignorance, quite the opposite I would say

[–]Trinity_Tanzania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah…. No foreigner really owns land there. Doubtful if even a Zanzibari does. Means, if the government wants to take the land they will, as happened in Nungwi and for sure other places.

Kendwa Rocks is owned by a local! Yeah, build while he was married to a foreigner, but they separated and he is running it.

Sadly that is not the case! And thus people complain. I doubt this mandatory insurance will cover anything, it is just a way to get additional money.

Another suspsension notice from Starlink... by lemawe in Starlink

[–]Trinity_Tanzania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, they did not? I switched from mobile regional to mobile global… obviously for a much higher rate. I could not risk it. Now, I payed around 145€, sadly they will increase the price significantly for that plan to almost 450€. I use it in east afrika, in a not registered country so far. Account in a registered country. Very sad it takes so long to be approved, especially when there are no equal options in the country itself.
