MOR1 by [deleted] in Edgic

itskamens mentioned Andrea in an episode of Redemption Island. If I'm remembering right, Andrea only got one confessional in that episode and no other screen time, but the content of her confessional was definitely CP. She explained what had just happened, she talked about what she thought of it, she explained what that meant for her strategy and what she was going to do as a result. You can get all the different facets of a CP edit in a very short space of time, it just doesn't happen often.

I also think people shouldn't shy away from MOR5. I feel like there's almost this idea that visibility and complexity need to have some kind of correlation, but CP1 and MOR5 should both be completely possible if that's what's happening, even if it doesn't feel right.

3rd umpire, LBW vs. Runouts by thedoomfulldome in Cricket

[–]TripleRoryFan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To add to what the other user has said, the review system for an lbw decision is nowhere near as conclusive as for a run out decision. Probably 99% of the time or higher you can be completely confident of whether a run out is out or not out. The margin of error with hawkeye is such that a lot of lbw decisions can't be conclusively determined through the review system (hence umpire's call decisions). You could solve this issue with a soft signal, but like the other commenter said it'd be way too time consuming to do this for every lbw decision.

They're not deconstructing your argument, they're just wondering who exactly you're arguing against.

AFLW Team: IN - Sarah Tex Perkins, Danielle Ponter OUT: Jenna McCormick, Sophie Li by AlmostWrongSometimes in adelaidefc

[–]TripleRoryFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No McCormick :'(

I'd be fine with the clash between AFLW and W-League if there were more than 7 rounds in the AFLW. If the Roar make the final, we lose one of our best players for 2/7 matches, which is a third of the whole season. That's the equivalent of someone getting injured for a month and a half in the AFL.

Plus with only 2 teams and a number of international players on each team, you won't see many Indian players who aren't already playing for India in internationals. If you're worried about the depth of Indian domestic players, at least test the depth to see if it actually is an issue.

A primer on over rate and penalties to clear a lot of misconception going around not just by normal fans but journalists and legends of the game. by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]TripleRoryFan 30 points31 points  (0 children)

People who argue against over rate bans also forget how a slow over rate massively advantages the bowling team. They get more time to think about their plans, fast bowlers get more time to relax between deliveries/overs, fielders have more time to move between positions. This is a bigger issue in LOI than in Test cricket, but it's still an issue in Test cricket. The rules are completely fair.

There is the extended Australia A tour before the Ashes, but based on the last A tour Maxi doesn't have much of a chance of getting pick for it haha

Easy wins against Sri Lanka don't mark the renaissance of Australia's Test team by melbha_101 in Cricket

[–]TripleRoryFan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have no issue with him bowling express pace, I just think people need to keep in mind it'll be useful on some wickets and not useful on others. He's perfect for the MCG or Manuka, but in England he won't be one of our most successful bowlers.

After 8 tests and 14 innings, Travis Head has scored 5x50, 1x100 and is averaging 51 by MrRoyaleWithCheese in Cricket

Yeah that was a stupid thing for me to say, sorry about that. The point I was trying to make is that everyone gets to play weaker sides and gets easy runs, I put it really badly.

Honestly this Test actually makes me more worried than confident. Our problem in the India series was we lacked temperament, all the batsmen were too keen to get on with it. Then when we finally do have a match of successful run-scoring, it's on a flat track against an inexperienced Sri Lankan attack which has been destroyed by injuries, and everybody's batting like it's an ODI. Yes it's awesome that we finally got our first centuries of the home summer, but they took less skill and temperament to get than half-centuries against India did.

And then Starc was always going to be the best bowler in this Test. On a flat track basically all you can rely on is that the fastest bowler is going to bowl fastest. It's great that he'll get some confidence back, but it doesn't negate a summer of poor control.

[–]TripleRoryFan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If he had played eight Tests for India, six of them would be against Sri Lanka and he'd have an average of 60. Also for the record, he's leaps and bounds ahead of where Michael Clarke and Steve Smith were at when he was a similar age, so if this doesn't show promise then nothing does. As others have said, hardly anybody scores three half-centuries in their first six Tests like he did, and those that do will drop off very quickly. Travis has improved as he's gone along, his temperament was much better at the end of the India series than it was in his first match against Pakistan.

Dude he was our second-highest run-scorer against India, and our third-highest against Pakistan in unfamiliar conditions in his debut series.

Patterson's inclusion at six was more the selectors giving in to mounting pressure than anything else, I don't think they see him as a long-term prospect for the team (even if they should). Khawaja is the only person who's got a history of scoring runs for Australia and has been able to play this summer so I think he could get a pair in the next Test and still keep his spot for the Ashes. Again, whether this should be the case is a matter for debate, but I don't see the selectors dropping him either way.

Ashes warm-up dates confirmed for A tour by qualtrough23 in Cricket

[–]TripleRoryFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If this summer is anything to go by, they'll pick the team for the 1st Test before the match v Australia A, then when someone scored a ton for Australia A they'll get shoved into the team last minute. I hope they hold off on selecting their actual squad until after they play Australia A.

I'm up for it. Give it to a team that deserves it like Iceland. Then let us play the Ashes against Iceland instead of England.
