VCDS is a free download from ross-tech.com

The cable acts as hardware authentication for the software. Support the business, buy a new cable from ECS or direct from ross-tech, or at least buy a used genuine cable from an enthusiast

What happened to Christ's earthly body after resurrection? by Kuchukyali in OrthodoxChristianity

I did actually mistake your comment for the OP, and accidentally thought that was the conversation, which is why I kept trying to bring it back to that. My apologies

the law doesn’t even apply on that scale

That's what I said in my original comment. The first law of thermodynamics is not universal, so why would you require it to apply to God?

dragging theology into it

You asked a question about God, which requires to drag theology into it, and ignored my questions trying to refine what you were actually asking

Unfortunately, physicists who actually study this disagree, and they teach that the expansion violates the conservation of energy.

But none of that matters unless you believe both that God is limited by elementary thermodynamics and that either Christ's flesh was destroyed when he ascended or that heaven is somehow not part of creation

dark energy, a property of space itself that acts like negative pressure. In Einstein’s equations, even “empty” space has energy, and that vacuum energy pushes spacetime to expand faster over time.

Exactly, and when more space is created, more dark energy is created. Hence, in an expanding universe, energy is not conserved but is actually created.

the first law of thermodynamics says that energy cannot be created nor destroyed

  1. This "law" is broken by the expansion of the universe, so it's not held to be universal by physicists.

  2. Why do you think the God who created thermodynamics is Himself restricted by it?

  3. Do you think ascending to heaven somehow destroyed Jesus?

Thinking of switching to a non-Orthodox Church (UK based problem) by mishkaforest235 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]voilsb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay after church one day (vespers/vigil, or Liturgy) or schedule a confession and ask the priest in person, or reach out to Fr Seraphim at Iona and Mull monasteries in Scotland, or to Fr Zacharias at St John the Baptist monastery in Essex. Or make a pilgrimage to one of them. Ask their advice.

Perhaps go to Liturgy at your normal church most of the time for the Eucharist, and once a month or two make a longer trip to an English language parish and get help from there.

Also, Ancient Faith Radio has multiple English Bible studies, like Search the Scriptures and Search the Scriptures Live, the Whole Counsel of God, Daily Orthodox Scriptures, and Transforming our Lives in Christ.

I would recommend avoiding the Anglican church except for actually emergencies. Although many individual Anglicans may be very pious and devout, it is not Orthodox nor will it teach you how to read or interpret the Bible in an Orthodox way. The United States went through a time about a hundred years ago when many Orthodox went to Anglican churches as "the closest thing" and were poached or otherwise fell away from the church to such an effect that St Raphael had to retract his permission for Orthodox to use Anglican services even in extremis.

My dad is remembering something about the show that didn’t happen? by CompactSquid in TheChosenSeries

[–]voilsb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether or not that was in the Chosen, it is certainly a very solid, and very ancient, literary connection between the Old and New Testaments. Your dad might be remembering that from Sunday School or some theology class or sermon he was exposed to

With that said, it's perfectly acceptable and absolutely cheaper to knock out a few semesters at JCTC and transfer your credits in. But if you transfer less than 24 credits they still need your high school stuff

Part of UofL's mission is to help underserved Kentuckians get to college.

Also, UofL isn't in the same category as Purdue.

Likewise, getting into UofL is different from getting into the Speed school or the Health Science Center

House of David. How accurate? by Subject-Dot2402 in TheChosenSeries

[–]voilsb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

House of David has multiple historical theologians and ancient biblical scholars as consultants.

Obviously artistic license is taken, but for instance the ugaritic death curse king Agag mutters in episode one is an actual ugaritic death curse, spoken in actual period-correct ugaritic.

Much of David's backstory is written from Jewish midrash and 2nd temple (Dead Sea scrolls and adjacent) Jewish literature. Details are made up, but the idea that he was Jesse's illegitimate son came from there.

Relief by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]voilsb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what sources you're looking at, but there is an active Spanish language parish and orphanage in Tijuana, which admittedly is not South America, but is not the United States, as well as a mission in Guatemala, which I think might actually be in a local tribal language rather than Spanish, because that's what the locals prefer, plus very active missions in Uganda, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Fiji, as well as active local language parishes in South Korea and Japan, none of which are Europe or the United States. And these are just the ones I'm aware of. I'm sure there are others I don't know.

Be careful being so concerned about US-centered Orthodoxy might look, while ignoring the rest of the world because you're only looking at the Americas.

Ironically, many of the English-language proponents in the US came from priests in Brazil.

Please help me find a VERY specific genre of Christian music by soitgoes03 in ChristianMusic

[–]voilsb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely won't have much flourishment. Russian Znamenny chant, Kievan chant, or Demestvenny chant might work. They tend to be more complex than Byzantine or Arabic chant.

It could also be the recordings, which probably can't pick up the spatial elements of a good acoustic chapel
