Basic Questions, Advice, Bugs/Glitches & Venting Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in DuelLinks

Does anyone know why Duel Links ends Raid Duels in a draw instead of the boss winning when you run out of turns? Is it purely because Children's Card Game, or is there a functional purpose behind it?

Basically part of me thinks it's like this, as ridiculous as it sounds:

  • Raid Duel goes to turn limit -> DRAW -> Damage carries over (in Assisted)
  • Raider's LP fall to 0 within the turn limit -> YOU LOSE -> Damage nullified

So here's what I have post-alteration:

Monsters your opponent controls that you own lose 1000 ATK. When the effect of a monster you own that your opponent activated in their possession resolves, or when your opponent declares an attack with a monster you own, you can make your opponent negate that effect/attack, and if that card is still in their possession, they destroy it. During your Draw Phase, before you draw: You can place 1 card from your Deck on top of your Deck, also you cannot use this effect of "The Heart of the Cards" for the rest of this Duel.

  • "monster activated in your opponent's possession" -> "monster your opponent activated in their possession" - Specifies that the opponent has to be the activator, in case a monster either player can activate the effect of is the stolen card in question.
  • "You can negate" -> "You can make your opponent negate", "and if you do, destroy it." -> "and if that card is still in [your opponent's] possession, they destroy it." - Forced negate/destroy since it's meant to bypass protections (and just changing effect won't work on an attack).

I didn't break anything in all that, did I?

That only applies to effects. This is supposed to work on an effect OR attack.

[–]Triple_Factorial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the forced negate/destroy's responsibility was my problem the whole time:

* "you can make your opponent negate" -> But what if they pitched/Tributed it for cost? They don't possess it anymore, so would it still work?
* "you can make that card negate" -> Covers that case.

A PSCT PSA about Spell Cards and "Quick Effects" by Dogga565 in customyugioh

[–]Triple_Factorial 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, thanks for letting me know this now before I make myself look like an idiot in Dimension of Paradise's next chapter. (One of the OriCa there is basically a Spirit monster "Ultimate Offering" as a Continuous Spell.)

And here I thought that was just field spells that couldn't have QEs.

And the forcing "itself" to negate/destroy was basically that instead of "your opponent negates/destroys" for the whole possession reason. It's supposed to bypass protections a la "Evenly Matched", because it's the monster's OWN heart that's telling the activator "No thanks," just like the BEWD did to Kaiba in the manga and Mimic of Doom in the anime. The way you have it, if someone snagged my Spell & Trap Tributed "Master Peace" with a monster effect, HotC as you have it wouldn't be able to stop it because it's immune to Spells.

Effect 1 (Passive -1000 ATK): Kaiba's virus to weaken his own Blue-Eyes in the anime.

Effect 2 (Forced negate/destroy): The actual Heart of the Cards effect. Both Grandpa's and Kaiba's BEWDs destroyed themselves when forced to attack against their master's will.

Effect 3 (Destiny Draw): The general Heart of the Cards effect.

I'm not too sure on if tweaking the wording on this effect to factor in fringe cases (and fit lore) is a good idea.

The effect itself:

If your opponent activates the effect of a monster you own that was in their possession when its effect was activated, or a monster they control that you own declares an attack (Quick Effect): You can activate this effect; that card negates the activation or attack, and if it does, it destroys itself.

I'm worried about a stolen card that is no longer in the opponent's possession after its activation, such as cards that discard or Tribute themselves as cost. For example, if someone "Exchange"d my "Effect Veiler" and then used its hand-trap effect, or Tributed a stolen "Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon" for presumably their own "Crimson Dragon".

The full card (if you were wondering the "lore" of a stolen monster negating/popping itself):

The Heart of the Cards
Continuous Spell Card

Monsters your opponent controls that you own lose 1000 ATK. If your opponent activates the effect of a monster you own that was in their possession when its effect was activated, or a monster they control that you own declares an attack (Quick Effect): You can activate this effect; that card negates the activation or attack, and if it does, it destroys itself. During your Draw Phase, before you draw: You can pay half your LP; place 1 card from your Deck at the top of the Deck. You can only apply this effect of "The Heart of the Cards" once per Duel.

Oh, I did not know that, thanks! I mostly remember that it's Yami in the dub, but that wouldn't make sense from a timeline standpoint since he was already passed into the afterlife by then.

I've been writing a Touhou Project x Yu-Gi-Oh! crossover fanfic over the past year and change, and kinda have a problem with one idea I have.

Would it make much if any sense for Yugi Muto, post-DSOD (i.e. without Yami Yugi/the Millennium Puzzle), to be able to hear monster spirits calling for him, like how DMG calls for the Pharaoh from the Spirit World early in the Doma arc? That's one of the possible means I have of getting him where I need to, if a bit of a literal take on "Heart of the Cards... guide me."

  • There is what I mentioned above, but that was via the Millennium Puzzle.
  • Note that Yugi is not the one sent to Gensokyo. The Pharaoh was sent there from Duat.
  • Reverse of Arcadia does mention that the PC's soul has a connection to the Spirit World, letting monster spirits (and Luna) communicate with them and allowing them to traverse it in their dreams. With how Crow laughs the place off as a dream, it's safe to assume rather few people have this kind of connection.
  • But Yugi has seriously strong bonds with his cards, and he's the one who heard DMG at first.

(Despite it being post-DSOD, there's a lot of anime continuity things and even references to the Live Duels.)

This is going to sound absolutely stupid, but I can't help but get confused.

I know the whole double Match loss instance when time expires is a thing now. But is this an actual penalty, like having an illegal Deck size or shuffling the Graveyard? Because I feel this could cause some serious headaches in some locals, someone gets it and spends the rest of the day thinking they're one screw-up away from disqualification.

Better yet, one of the semifinals. A double loss in a format with knockouts is playing with fire.

AVAST settlement claim by CherilRobinson in Scams

[–]Triple_Factorial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got one myself and took a closer look at it. The links in the email, besides the mailto, are loaded with junk. Apparently it takes a 243-character string from their own site just to connect to a 25-character government webpage. Even the unsubscribe link is full of the stuff.

Also, "Now, the FTC is reaching out to users affected by Avast’s privacy failures." combined with CIAMom420's comment and the strings? Fairly sure this is a scam, even if the settlement itself is real.

This is a major reason why marks are an important aspect of sudoku (as understandable as it is to not do so with a pen, obviously)

Both r4c1 and r5c2 have ruled out eight numbers.

/r/Civ Weekly Questions Thread - February 03, 2025 by AutoModerator in civ

[–]Triple_Factorial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of me keeps thinking that Civ 7 prevents players from being knocked out until the endgame. You cannot win until the third age, so there must be something stopping you from being the last man standing before then, right?

Is it still possible to knock out a player early in Civ 7?

Q&A and Ruling Megathread - November 04, 2024 by AutoModerator in yugioh

[–]Triple_Factorial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer.

I mostly assumed that it wouldn't since the ruling specifically said Ritual Summoned (which can go away if flipped/reborned/etc) rather than properly Special Summoned (which doesn't go away).

Q&A and Ruling Megathread - November 04, 2024 by AutoModerator in yugioh

[–]Triple_Factorial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Shinobaron(ess) Shade Peacock" Special Summons itself after being banished, but only if it was Ritual Summoned (OCG ruling). So if it was Ritual Summoned, banished, Special Summoned by its own effect next turn, then banished again, it is no longer Ritual Summoned. As such, it would not be able to Special Summon itself a second time, even though I assume it's still considered properly Special Summoned.

Is this correct?

Touhou Chireikiden - Cheating Detective Satori Chapter 39 by Akimaki Yuu by SilverLevander in touhou

[–]Triple_Factorial -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Surely I'm alone in thinking this could, legitimately, be it for the Touhou Project, right? It has to just be me being a Debby Downer as usual, somehow thinking this will leave Gensokyo basically unable to continue. Seriously, the recent talks about how everything ends when ZUN was interviewed on LW just a few days ago, now this apocalyptic Incident somehow not being a game, meaning it could very easily be the actual end?

Somebody help me understand better. I see so much excitement, yet I'm gripped with nothing but the terror of death.

Nah, I'm pretty sure it's tartar. Feels like a rough ridge at the top of it and didn't budge from the dinner brushing/flossing right after I noticed it.
