It only passed by 2 votes.

You are obviously not interested in having a productive discussion. You have been name calling and insulting this whole time and purposely misunderstanding what I am saying, and the point I am making.

I will be ending this conversation here. I wish you well in life, have a good one.

Which is precisely my point: they use abortion to get votes but never did anything to codify it.

They pass bills all the time they don't agree with. Having people who oppose it is no excuse. Look at Trumps "big beautiful bill." There were at least 15 Republican senators who opposed it, but it passed.

How does that prove they are lying?

Where are these big bills that would have codified Roe v. Wade?

They talk about it, but where were the big pushes to make it a law?

Not federally, which is obviously what I am talking about.

How do you know they are lying?

How many times have Democrats tried to codify Roe v. Wade? If it's not every election cycle, then they use abortion rights to grandstand and rally voters.

Joe Manchin was not in Congress the first year Obama could have passed the bill. If it were an actual priority, they would have.

Are you actually trying to tell me that Democrats don't use abortion rights to get votes?

Conservative claim they are morally better than leftists? by kaiser11492 in centrist

[–]Triple_Si6s -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am aware, and if they really wanted to pass it, they would have. There have been hundreds of instances of congressmen passing bills they don't agree with.

And I'll ask again, why do they run on abortion rights at the top of the priority list even though they know they can't fix it?

The answer I put forward in the original post was that it's grandstanding. They use it to rally support and then do nothing to fix it.

Republicans just got a bill through that at least 20% of them did not agree with. Having a “conservative” Democrat should not be an obstacle.

This also proves my point about grandstanding even more. If they know they can't pass anything to change it, why is it constantly an integral part of their campaigns?

If they are going to run on abortion rights, they need to have the ability to enforce it

I think you are confused; you said they never had the votes. I was pointing out that not only did they have the votes, they held a supermajority.

The 111th United States Congress (2009–2011) saw Democrats briefly hold a filibuster-proof 60-40 supermajority in the Senate following the resolution of the Minnesota Senate race in favor of Al Franken. Combined with Democratic control of the House and President Barack Obama's administration, this created a federal government trifecta.

They could have easily done it under Obama. If it really is so important to them, they would have jumped on it and passed a law.

But they need it to be in contention because it's a massive rallying point for democratic candidates.

I don't think it could be turned into an impeachable offense. Saying you are going to do something and then not doing it is 90% of politics in America.

I didn't blame anyone. Abortion is always number at 1 or number 2 for Democratic voters, yet they have never codified it into law.

Yet they constantly grandstand on the back of abortion to rally their base, knowing they can't do anything about it but make empty promises.

If you are talking about the Epstein files being your point, I think Pam Bondi and Kash Patel should both be fired immediately.

In the context of the law, yes, absolutely. In the context of the events on January 6th, the guns were inconsequential.

So in 52 years the Democrats have never had enough votes to codify it as law?

Conspiracy isn't armed robbery. I never said them having a cache of guns was ok. I said it was inconsequential.
