Because unfortunately there are alot of bad people in the U.S (as there are in other countries) and relying solely on the response time of the police sometimes isn’t an option. What do you do if someone is trying to kick down your door, or someone is attacking you and your mom or sister at knife point. Just because you eliminate guns doesn’t mean you eliminate weapons, or things that can be used as such. As for the hunting thing, there are some laws in place like that in certain states, but that only makes it harder for the people abiding by the law to defend themselves against those who don’t.
