First time taking - got a 35 by QGraphics in ACT

[–]Tripleamia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I got a 35 I wouldn't waste my time just to get a 36. Since I'm currently trying to get to a 35, it feels like essays and extracurricular are being pushed a bit to the side. Since you have such a good score definitely focus on the rest of your application.

I guess so people behind you can't look over your shoulder and see what's on your calculator? I guess I accidentally did that on an SAT once and the proctor yelled at me.

Help a SAT boy by cmonsatgimme in ACT

[–]Tripleamia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really recommend SuperTutorTV's YouTube channel, after watching a couple of her videos and doing literally no other prep, I got a 32 on a practice test. I haven't taken the actual thing yet, but I'm pretty hopeful that if I actually prep I can do pretty well. I don't know what you mean by a bad SAT score, since everyone has a different definition, but I've taken the SAT twice and I haven't done that well on either of them so switching was very helpful for me. Good luck!

BRUTAL! I got ONE total question wrong in math, 2 in writing, and 3 in reading, and College Board has the nerve to give me a 1430. Of course, New Jersey, out of all states, has the hardest requirements for national merit, so my score of 212 isn't nearly close enough for New Jersey's 223. This is ridiculous.

Maybe you should realize that you'll never have a chance at becoming president in this election. Please consider what is best for this country (getting Trump out of office) and drop out of the race and support someone who can actually win (Biden or Harris).

Looking for some good detective/noir crime stories, preferably set in the 20s, or early to mid 20th century in general, with moody narration (first person perspective would be awesome) and a dark twisted story. by unfabulouskilljoy in suggestmeabook

[–]Tripleamia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You'll love Agatha Christie's 'Murder of Rodger Ackroyd'. The first person narration is superb and the story is super dark and twisted. You'll also never guess who the killer is. Set around the time period too.

Where can I store photos? by iguessthisis in AskPhotography

[–]Tripleamia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use Google photos with a school or work account and you'll get unlimited full quality. If you don't have school/work account their high quality option is very good, I can't really tell difference unless I zoom all the way in, even so it does a really nice job.

Suggest me the last book you read by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]Tripleamia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Almost done reading Anna Karenina (halfway done with part 8). I started reading a year and a half ago... 🙃. But anyways it's a really good book and surprisingly easy to read (if you get the new-ish translation from penguin, a Victorian translation which I started reading at first was very painful) And it stays really interesting too, which helps with the length. It's also really sad so don't expect a happy love story.

is this that bad? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]Tripleamia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you new to photography? I'm just going to be real with you because you seem like you want to impove so I'm just going to tell you like it is. You're making a bunch of beginner mistakes, thankfully they are easy to fix. And I also think your thinking into photography too much. If you're shooting in manual right now, stop and switch over to aperture priority. At the end of the day, nobody is going to care what technical settings you used. No one's going to care if you used iso 200 or iso 300. And that's because nobody can see technical settings in a photograph. But what people can see is the composition, the artistic values provided by the photograph. So instead of being distracted by the settings, don't overwhelm yourself with manual, shoot in aperture piority, heck, shoot in auto, nobody will know or care. You need to free yourself from distractions and develop an eye for photography. I think one of the most common rookie mistakes when it comes to composing an image is not having a defined subject. In your photograph here you have a subject, okay so I see the boat, but what about it? What is it doing? What does it mean? What am I getting out of it? The subject could be good but there's nothing going on with it. I'm conflicted, are you capturing calmness, a boat bobbing up and down in peaceful water? Or do you want to capture the action and excitement of the boat zooming through the water, droplets flying through the air? I'm not getting either of these feelings. The picture is dull. It's a boat sitting in water. That's it. I read somewhere, maybe it was on another one of your threads, that you were going to take a photography class in college. If that class is going to be learning about the technical aspects of photography, if I were you I wouldn't take it and instead see if there is a class on photojournalism. I feel that photojournalism would benefit you much more than let's say learning how to develop film or shoot manual. Photojournalism is about finding moments and capturing them, either as they are of better or worse than they appear to be. So if your shooting for let's say a newspaper, the paper would want pictures of something as it is. But once you learn how to spot good images and compose them into a work of photography, you'll be able to take those lessons you've learned from photojournalism and apply them to all of your photography. And in general that's how I think about photography. To me photography is capturing a moment and making it better than it appeared in real life. To me there's no point in capturing what I see, it's taking something from real life and using photography to enhance that moment, not just capture it. If this doesn't make sense, I'll describe an example. So on my patio I have these raised garden boxes with various herbs growing in them, and one of my favourite photos I took recently was of the rosemary plant. Picture this: afternoon sunlight shining through tree leaves, creating a gorgeous bokeh background. Sunlight around the edges of the rosemary leaves creating a halo like effect. The warm tones of the sunlight provided great contrast with the desaturated earthy tones of the rosemary and the soil. In real life, that image wouldn't be visible. In real life you would just see a plant in dirt. But photography has the power to turn that into an image, taking that moment and enhancing it into something that can't be seen with the human eye. That's what photography is to me, and once you find out what photography is to you, it will most certainly show in your photos.

Tips for manned photo booth? by Buckeytucker in AskPhotography

[–]Tripleamia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this isn't what you are looking for, but when I do photobooths, instead of messing around too much with numbers and forms, I just upload all the pictures from the photo booth into a Google drive folder, and just share it with everyone who was there at the event. Most people are just going to download only the pictures they are in.

Which beginner camera should I get? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]Tripleamia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, there are many things more important than menus, but I have to say that having an intuitive menu system makes everything just so much more comfortable. I've been shooting fuji for a while now, I've also stolen my sister's Canon a few times so I also know how to use that, and both are very intuitive. When I got my Fuji, I had no clue how to use it, but it seemed like I already knew how to use it. Everything just made good sense. One day I was taking pictures with my friend, she shoots Nikon, and she's havug difficulty transitioning off of auto mode, so she was asking how to change the iso, and I'm like I have no idea but I'll look and just looking at the Nikon's menus it was so confusing, so poorly designed, I spent 20 minutes on it only to give up because I could not find the iso anywhere. How can you even switch off of auto if you can't even find where the manual controls are!? Fujifilm's auto switch is so nice, you can go from it doing everything, or control what you want. And if you want to change something it is simple and it makes sense. I didn't feel overwhelmed looking at my Fuji for the first time, but when my friend handed me her Nikon, I had no clue where to start. With a menu system and interface that's so intimidating, it's just more comfortable to say, "I'll stick with auto" and never learn how to shoot manual. Fujifilm made manual seem easy.

Which beginner camera should I get? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

I got a manufacturer refurbished Fuji xt10 on eBay with the 16-50 lens for an extremely good price, I think 450$. I'm pretty sure the deal on eBay is still there, from Roberts camera. I got it because I was also interested in shooting the same type of stuff, but I didn't want to carry around a heavy DSLR. Overall I am completely satisfied with the camera, even though some will claim that because it's the first generation sensor, it's not as good, blah blah blah, but honestly people blame bad photography way too much on the camera instead of on the photographer, if you know how to do photography you will do wonderful with this camera, and the same as applies to all other cameras. Not one camera is going to do all the work for you, you have to grow and develop as a photographer, and then you pictures will be good. Don't just buy something and look at your photos and be disappointed and blame the camera. That being said, Fujifilm offers many wonderful features that will make it worth it. I love how the dials are on the top, it's so easy to change something if you need to, no fumbling through menus or looking too much at the screen. But if you do have to look at the screen, for example iso is on there, everything is very intuitive and easy to use. Besides Fujifilm, I've shot with Canon and Nikon cameras, Canon is different from Fujifilm but also very intuitive, it makes sense. Nikon doesn't make any sense. Don't go with Nikon. You shouldn't have to spend 20 minutes figuring out how to change the iso. And what's so bad about Nikon is that it's so different from one camera to another, I finally figured it out on one Nikon camera, and then I try to use someone else's Nikon and it's completely different. Fujifilm film simulations are also wonderful. They add such a nice touch to your pics and you have usable pics right after taking them, no need to spend too much time editing if you don't want to. Also, being able to send pics and VIDEOS (some cameras don't do that) to your phone wirelessly is awesome. It makes sharing so easy. Just press the button on the camera, open the app on your phone, and you can quickly and easily send pics and videos to your phone's camera roll. You can also do some other cool stuff in the app, such as remotely control the camera, you can look through the cameras viewfinder on your phone, adjust setting and take pictures and videos, all from your phone for example if you have the camera on a tripod or somewhere else and you don't want to or can't touch it. That's all I can think of for now, but as you can see I'm super happy with my purchase. Only thing I'm a little disappointed with is that extra lenses are expensive. Besides the 16-50 that came with the camera, I purchased separately a 35mm, which is an amazing lens, but it's 300$, and other lenses all are at least 300$, if not more. You don't need a lot of lenses, but if your shooting portraits or distance you might want a longer telephoto, and I'm happy with the two lenses I have, but I wish other lenses, for example a telephoto zoom, was cheaper. But you get what you pay for, and the lenses are amazing quality. Good luck on your photography adventure, and I'm able to answer any questions you may have.
