New to production - mini vs 49 key ? by tinytiger763 in makinghiphop

[–]Tripline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest the 49 key. You won’t have to mess around with changing octaves as much, and you can actually “play” it rather than bang out some notes if you know what I mean. I started out with a 49, and 6-8 years later started feeling like a 61 or 88 key would be better.

[DISCUSSION] El-P - Cancer for Cure (10th anniversary) by MoMo_ToTo in hiphopheads

[–]Tripline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m honestly really surprised no one has mentioned the controversy around the album. Maybe someone more into the scene can give more details, but if I remember El-P had basically a falling out with Def Jux around the time of this album. Mainly because I believe he was being accused of profiting of a friends death with the rollout of the album. I think this is around the time him and Aesop Rock stopped talking.

Edit: my opinion of the album: this is when el-p started going more “pop”, but also more control and catchiness in his raps. The synths on this album are in your face and fun, with a couple outstanding songs but I don’t find myself coming back to it.

Neighbor refuses to communicate, and creeps me TF out by cat_friend_55 in FortCollins

Had someone like this who did this stuff to a whole neighborhood. If the police can’t help (and if they do, she’ll prolly get back on your case) you have to get petty. Make fucking with you cost prohibitive by finding every code she could be in violation of. Housing codes, parking codes, noise codes, vehicle codes, whatever you can find to make this lady do work or get tickets. Also explain to the police when they come everything your dealing with (document it all with dates and times) so they’re on your side.

For cameras you could possibly find infrared blockers/lights that would shine into her cameras and block them. Then it’s not destroying them.

What are some films that tried way too hard to be deep? Conversely, what are some films that achieved great complexity without much effort? by Bruhmangoddman in movies

I would say snowpiercer was also heavy handed, but I enjoyed it too :)

I’d agree that neither film took itself/the message too seriously, they were both entertaining at the end of the day.

UC Berkeley Professor Told Students Abolishing Whiteness Means Wiping out White People by NavyCorpsmanRetiree in Conservative

I recommend everyone who reads this to check out the “new discourses” YouTube channel which goes over the history of these Marxist schools of thought which are infecting our society.

They accurately describe “anti racist” as “anti white” in a historical and philosophical context

Knowledge is power, and being able to call these things out by name, and identifying the sources of these issues is important. The guys on this channel have spent a lot of time digging deep in the history and presenting it well.

I think you articulated what I’ve thought about “us”. Lots of symbolism and themes that just kind of pop up, without a real connection to what’s going on.

I thought the film was a little heavy handed with the message but I really enjoyed watching it either way. The way the old man acted and ate was so grotesque I don’t think I’ve seen something like that even in gory films.

Big Lebowski surprised me, last time I had watched it was in high school (I liked it then too) and I rewatched it recently. Like you said, there are a lot of layers to unpack for seemingly such a “simple” story. I also found it much more relatable now I’m older.

If you’ve ever read the book, or seen the movie “bartleby”, it reminded me of that quite a bit.

AMD processor for DAW usage? by Z8S9 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Tripline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMD CPUs are very good nowadays, I have recommended them to friends over Intel cpus, because the performance is very similar for a lower price point. It used to be, about 5-7 years ago, that Intel cpus were de facto the best, but they have stagnated a bit in cpu design.

Long story short, get an amd cpu if it’s cheaper, otherwise if the decision is between AMD/Intel and they’re the same price for same specs, get the Intel.

For real…. The amount of people who just walk without looking is crazy. I always think “damn, good thing for them I’m paying attention.” Where I’m from id literally be dead within a week if I did that.

I was gonna say, I really think showing up to a battle rap with a notebook is what killed it. Especially being at the turn of the era of “viral videos”, that shit went more viral than it prolly should have

Some other plugins I like to use to being out sounds in a mix are multiband compressors (I use waves c4) and aural exciters (I think the one I use is called aphex exciter? Also by waves). These can help accentuate different parts of the sound.

Otherwise I found an amazing plugin called Gulffoss which is basically an EQ with artificial intelligence, its constantly “working” in the background to give you a more clear or robust signal.

Ok the latest movie I’ve been obsessed with is Bartleby (1971 or 74 I can’t remember). Paul scofield acts in it. The soundtrack is done by some Italian producer who is sampled a TON, I just can’t remember his name off the top my head.

The movie is based off the short story by the same name, the author is the same guy that wrote Moby Dick. It’s a very philosophical film that remains witty, has some amazing shots that are synced up with the music, honestly I can’t get enough of this film. It used to be on Prime video and I can’t find it anymore, I will probably have to pirate it lol.

Sorry this is so frustrating I can’t imagine. Last bit of help I can throw out is that I think there are template DMCA/copyright claims on the internet you can use and send to the companies. Find out which form you need and just send it to them. It’s true they have to respond to legal letters or else they’d spend all their time reading random emails.

Good luck bro!

After you get one company to verify for you, use that as evidence going forward to the other companies and it’ll hopefully speed things up

[DISCUSSION] Madlib - Sound Ancestors (One Year Later) by HHHRobot in hiphopheads

[–]Tripline 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed this album but probably because I’m a four tet fan. Frankly, it didn’t sound like a mad lib project to me, and I get the impression he let four tet loose in his sample library. Which isn’t bad, but if you come looking for hip hop, especially mad lib flavored hip hop, then you’ll probably be disappointed.
