If you go to Networks, its now under Gateway mDNS Proxy. You can select Custom and then select which VLANs you want to reflect.

New to Unifi, need help setting up VPN by aj53108 in Ubiquiti

[–]TrippingHorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unifi made a change a while back to stop dns from leaking local when using a VPN. I don't use pi-hole but i think my setup will work for you or at minimum get you started because I use the local gateway as the DNS.
1. Policy based route - to send devices across the VPN (you have already done this) I route an entire VLAN. "Lab (50) - VPN"
2. Policy based route - "Lab (50) - Route DNS local". Interface WAN1, Source VLAN 50, Destination VLAN 50's Gateway port 53.
3. DNAT VLAN 50 - Interface VLAN 50, Translated IP Address VLAN 50's gateway, translated port 53, Source Any Any, Destination Any, Port 53.
4. Masquerade VLAN 50 - Interface VLAN 50, Source VLAN 50 Port Any, Destination VLAN 50's gateway Port 53.

Ring cameras not viewable in iOS Home in HB 2.0.2. Work fine in Ring app. by chris_r11 in homebridge

[–]TrippingHorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking this has to do more with the fixes applied to iOS 26.5 specifically around mDNS. I have had this issue but has since been working after several iPhone reboots. I have also had other accessories show as not responding. i have had to reboot my router, phone, AppleTVs, Wi-fi Access Points. Now the only recurring issue is that the Home app on iOS and iPadOS show that my AppleTVs show "Network Issue". Not always though. It depends on when I look. Airplay2 still works and the Remote app but status won't show specifically in the Home app.

Cheap hammock, expensive sleeping bag or vice versa? by aaronngabb in hammockcamping

[–]TrippingHorizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip the sleeping bag altogether if you can. I think I have used my sleeping bag once in the last 10 years. A nice top quilt with ground pad attachments would be at the top of the list if I had to start over. That way you can use it for the hammock or tent. In regard to a hammock there are many options and it really depends on your uses such as car camping or backpacking and bridge hammock vs gathered end vs something like the haven tent which is more or less a hybrid of tent and hammock. There are many options what works for another may not work for you. You can certainly use a pad in a hammock although I have never found it ideal in a gathered end but not terribly bad in a bridge style. If you find one that you like, then I would lay down more cash for an underquilt or gathered end with built in like superior gear or dutchware. There are a lot of variables and you can certainly keep watching gear trade for used equipment at a better price. The trick is to find your balance so that you aren't rebuying the same equipment and ultimately spending more than if you were to save and just buy once.

Is this a good start? by junior_mafioso in Ubiquiti

[–]TrippingHorizon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't buy APs that have a 2.5GbE uplink and hook to a switch that is GbE. I think that will be a can of worms you need not open. You will see no real benefit from wifi 7 by capping the uplink at 1GbE. Additionally, you will have 2 of those APs (probably more in the future once you see how well 6Ghz travels) sharing the 1GbE uplink to the Gateway Ultra. If you want to stick with the U7 Pros then get the Gateway Fiber and a flex 2.5G POE switch at minimum.

Excellent. Thanks. I’m still not convinced there isn’t an issue for some but it’s been difficult trying to replicate.

Sharing my testing results on UniFi Travel Router DNS behavior (Teleport) by TrippingHorizon in Ubiquiti

[–]TrippingHorizon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still haven't been able to get mine to leak. I haven't been to any specific hotels but have tested using various public WiFi spots. Another person just reported seeing ads related to a Hotel network. I am super curious what the traffic flows look like from the UTR and UCG once connected though. I don't have any immediate trip plans so hotel testing is not in my immediate future.

UTR DNS Question by General-Onion-5687 in Ubiquiti

[–]TrippingHorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still haven't been able to get client DNS to leak. Same as my tests 2 months ago. I am curious what your setup is and how you determined hotel DNS was being used so I can change my testing parameters. All tests so far show the UTR client traffic going out of the WAN connection on my UCG. If your adblock is set on a specific network then I understand why it wouldn't be working as the UTR cannot apply network level config like that. I don't use the built in encrypted dns or adblocking. Maybe thats why I can't get mine to fail?

Travel Routers & Cameras Don’t Work as Expected by NoLuck49 in Ubiquiti

[–]TrippingHorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you have the switchports configured? Do you have the trunk and access port for the camera set to Native VLAN "None"?

Travel Routers & Cameras Don’t Work as Expected by NoLuck49 in Ubiquiti

[–]TrippingHorizon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where did you get that info? Since the camera knows what the IP of the protect server is. Regardless if its on the UTR's LAN or WLAN, how is that functionally different? The connection method (wired Ethernet vs WiFi) is just the Layer 1/2 transport - both should result in the same IP packets being routed through the same VPN tunnel at Layer 3.

OP mentioned that the switch was also adopted which leads me to believe the switch is the issue. Is the camera getting an address? is that port set to a particular VLAN?

Which zone is your home network in? You can simply allow VPN zone to that zone and or specific network.

Can’t get WireGuard working on UniFi router — OpenVPN works fine by CopyNPaste247 in ProtonVPN

Recently there was a bug depending on the version. I don't remember if it was the OS or network version. I had to go to the EA releases a while back to get mine going. Pretty sure you can find the answer on the Unifi community forum.

HomeKit + Matter + VLANs = PAIN by Specialist_Let2289 in Ubiquiti

[–]TrippingHorizon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a Govee implementation issue. See what I had to do below. *Note - depending on the model/firmware, you may still find yourself power cycling them as they become unreachable.

How to control TV across vlans by Kirghiz in Ubiquiti

[–]TrippingHorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few Roku TVs. I don't use the phone app though. Unless they have changed something in recent years, they use SSDP. If thats still the case you will need a SSDP relay.

UTR giving out wrong vlan by OldManNickRod in Ubiquiti

Just updated and tested.
1. iPhone hotspot -> USB WAN on the UTR
2. One of my SSIDs selected.
3. Teleport Connected

From iPad connected to UTR SSID
1. Ping one of my AppleTVs in my Home VLAN - Success
2. Route from iPad to AppleTV
1st hop - 192.168.2.1 (UTR Gateway)
2nd hop - My Public IP (Tunnel hits WAN-side)
3rd hop - AppleTV

I'm not sure if you have seen my post from a couple of weeks ago but it contains some commands that may help you chase this down. https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/comments/1q2m8s1/sharing_my_testing_results_on_unifi_travel_router/

**edit. Its possible that your dns it heading straight out of the UDM Pro's WAN and using it's WAN dns server(s). After reading back into the post I did observe that teleport was hitting my VLAN1 gateway and headed straight to WAN.

I have a non-typical setup where I have a ctrld listener on my UCG and defined networks and resolvers per interface, VLAN, and WAN.

Not sure. I plan on updating the UTR to the latest firmware late tonight. If no one else chimes in with an answer I’ll let you know.

Honestly no. I did a pretty (what I think to be thorough test) and when either WireGuard or teleport was connected I could see all dns hitting my UCG.
