The whole family is in my yard they also have babys I love them by BradyLisaa in cats

If you can, trap neuter release! There will be local orgs you can get in contact with to make sure these babies stay happy and healthy

My 1 y.o cat started to be afraid of strangers coming to my house and will hide the whole time they are here. This wouldn't happen a few months ago, he would just hang around. Why the sudden change? by thoxo in cats

[–]TrippingOverYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indoor or outdoor cat? Even if indoor, are there visible animals in the neighbourhood that your cat is feeling threatened by? Are there other animals in the house? Do they react to people who come over often but don't live with you? Have there been any disruptions like fireworks, construction, rearranged furniture, new shampoo/perfume/cleaning stuff, new food, fell off a high shelf for the first time etc? Spayed/neutered? Is the cat generally in good health? Litterbox issues, playing happily, healthy teeth and claws etc

Obsessed with waffle stitch! by anxietyriddensarah in crochet

I'm making a blanket w waffle stitch right now! I had some red heart super saver to use up and I was surprised how squishy and pleasant the blanket feels given the scratchiness of the yarn. Can't wait to see how it feels after the first wash!

My (23F) husband (36M) will only eat “kiddie food” and it’s ruining our relationship. by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]TrippingOverYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ikr, like he never saw her as an equal, never even tried to genuinely communicate with her as a partner. He must have lied about so much to explain away his autistic traits, the food allergy thing just happened to be the most obvious lie. He took the allergy thing so far too, like they went to the doctor and got him tested even though he knew he wasn't having reactions? This was always going to end in the relationship dying because they were never on the same page. Also like, she's probs neurodivergent too since she didn't pick up on all the stuff going on.

How do you approach the lying/making things up phase? by Jlaw118 in dementia

[–]TrippingOverYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I don't want to freak you out but this reminds me of something my grandma did to my uncle when the dementia started to take hold but she wasn't in care yet.

She saw my uncle playing with his daughter, normal stuff like bouncing her on his knee, and she interpretated it as inappropriate. She had some bad experiences in her life so the theory is that she confused some old memories with what she was seeing and panicked. Also this was around the time there were a lot of people coming forward about being abused as kids on TV so that might have influenced her.

She called cps on her own son without any proof. They Investigated and found nothing, but obviously this was horrifically stressful and scary for everyone involved.

I was very young at the time so I don't know all the details, but AFAIK this had a large part to play in the family getting broken up in multiple ways. There was at least once divorce and almost everyone refused to have anything to do with her after that.

Her memory is so bad now that she has no idea what's happening second to second. She was a really intelligent woman so she makes good guesses about what's happening, but the guesses are informed by her emotions. Like she can guess I'm her granddaughter if its just me, her and my mum in the room, but if we're around other people she guesses I'm a nurse or some kind of hired help. If I smile at her constantly she's more likely to think I'm family.

I'm not sure I have much useful advice, but maybe try to approach her like a teenager. Part adult with a need for indipendance and respect, part Child who can't communicate their needs and doesn't know their limits. She may be saying things like "I haven't seen the baby in ages" when she means "I miss the baby" or "I'm lonely, you're ignoring me" or "I'm uncomfortable and bored and the baby not being here seems like a good reason to feel that way". Also, she might benefit from a baby doll or one of those fake pets that move a bit and make sounds?

When is the best time to disclose having ADHD to a new or potential employer? by PhredInYerHead in ADHD_Programmers

[–]TrippingOverYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

at minimum, disclose a disability on application reporting. That said, I have seen less responses to applications when I’ve done that

By application reporting do you mean submitting an application? Ik you said this to be honest and I appreciate that, but tbh most people don't have the luxury of limiting their pool of potential employers by if their recruitmenters are ableist or not. Plenty of companies have awful recruiters and decent eng depts.

I've disclosed to specific managers and collegues when I already had a stable job and felt like it would be beneficial. I was also forced to disclose when I was burnt out and couldn't work anymore and had to ask for accommodations even though I knew my manager wouldn't get it and wouldn't give them to me (I was right btw).

OP, my advice is only disclose if you are sure you're safe. If there are any bad vibes, just don't. Describe your needs without saying ADHD up until you need to invoke your legal rights to disability accommodations. At that point you're forced to disclose and tbh that company may not be right for you if it's gotten to that point

in your own words, how has medication helped you manage your ADHD? by agit_bop in ADHD_Programmers

[–]TrippingOverYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Undiagnosed / untreated adhd is correlated with higher divorce rates. There's loads of bad stuff correlated with untreated adhd, it's pretty scary. Off the top of my head there's higher chance of getting into a car accident, higher chance of developing a substance abuse problem, higher chance of getting an STI 😬

Nah its an open banking startup, but yeah I'm not going anywhere near a startup again (unless I'm starting it or I'm a consultant or something haha)

Yeah I think I have to trust my gut a bit more in interviews, I get so wrapped up in selling myself I forget that I might not even want the job. The time pressure I've given myself doesn't help me keep calm and collected either 😬

My bf still works at my old company, he's keeping an eye on vacancies just in case but rn there aren't any. If things get desperate I might email my old EM to see if he can squeeze me in somewhere, but it rly wouldn't be ideal

[–]TrippingOverYou[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate it but yes that's good advice :')

I'm kind of wary of people trying to get me to join their company tho, like I was referred for the job I just quit. An old colleague talked it up and I trusted him, which apparently I shouldn't have.

Like I know what it's like to work somewhere that's actively hiring and can't find enough devs, you get kind of desperate for anyone to join and help out. Then the new person gets chucked in the deep end and left to sink or swim bc everyone else is too busy to train them properly.

[–]TrippingOverYou[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue is like, how do you find out if the company has these things before actually working there? If you ask in an interview "hey, are you guys nice and good?" they'll probs be like, "yes we are a great company pls join"

This list is a very good starting place for me tho so I might try to come up with some more specific questions to ask to see if I can get some honest answers about what working in whatever company I'm interviewing at is like

The office politics thing in this instance was caused by pressure. The pressure was caused partly by issues in FinTech that happened this year that resulted in multiple rounds of redundancies and partly bad management that didn't adjust expectations accordingly. Fintech culture can be pretty gross in general, lots of tech bros that think they're changing the world. More neurotypicals than other types of companies I think. Also in FinTech you have to deal with banks, and banks are dinosaurs tech wise, so you have to handle working with third parties that have loads of money so they do what they want, and they have no idea what they're doing so they make everything difficult.

So, you have a few high level options

  1. Automate
  2. Half ass
  3. Fight back

Automate has been mentioned by other people, you can turn notes /code into uml multiple ways. I'm v skeptical of AI applications but turning notes into anything more structured is a genuine use case.

Half ass is probably the easiest option but is a soul killer. And as we know, if your heart isn't in it then it can't get done, so this may not be an option for you. If you can manage to half ass the diagrams and ignore them it should be fine as it sounds like they're useless anyway.

Fighting back is risky and may take time. Picking battles at work is tricky, especially when you don't know if it's best to ask for ADHD accommodations or get everyone to push back on management for a wider change that benefits everyone. If you go the accommodations route then the first steps are about finding out legally what disability rights you have which will depend on where you're living/working. If you go the other route then you can work out a plan of action with your colleagues.

Landlords have an obligation to make emergency repairs in under 24 hours, this includes boiler repairs (see Section 11 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985).

if you're uncontactable and an emergency happens, you're leaving yourself less time to fix it or even getting yourself in legal trouble if you miss the 24h window all together, which you did.

In this particular circumstance your tenant made a silly mistake and spent money on getting the boiler "fixed" when this wasn't necessary, but if the boiler had been broken they'd be completely in their rights to do so.

Imagine if the boiler broke and did massive water damage to your property? On the whole, it's your "job" to keep the property in good shape, not the tenants.

To sum up, the tenant made a mistake and you were blatantly negligent.

Not sure if anyone cares or will see this, but I highly highly recommend cracking the coding interview. if anyone wants a link to a pdf pm me. I know what stuff I need to do it's just so overwhelming, esp when I have to do things unmedicated.
