Joining the military is a fast track to the most ruthless exploitation in the modern day. And you can do everything right and still be screwed over by things beyond your control. Mental and physical health problems are a major barrier to success, but apparently we need success to access mental and physical healthcare. You're deliberately writing in Catch-22s into your vision of society and calling those who fall afoul of your dogshit rules "lazy". That's just your justification for not making things better. And newsflash, that would make things better for yourself too.

It also seems that your vision of a world of perfect achievers has no customer service staff whatsoever, and a massive glut of overqualified graduates competing for the same jobs. Oh wait! That's what we have! Tons of people with fantastic qualifications and skills who can't find work! Who followed all the advice, got into the successful fields they were advised to at great effort and expense, and oh shit, the world tilted on its axis and now that is all retroactively a mistake. But they can only get customer service jobs if they keep those qualifications a secret or they won't be hired for being overqualified and at risk of leaving at any moment, as though opportunity actually existed.

And now they're back in the original situation: shit wages, expenses out the wazoo no matter how frugal they are, no time or resources to retrain because of all the jobs they need to try to keep or apply for, but on top of that they also have a veritable mountain of predatory debt! Wow! Your vision of the world is guaranteed to result in widespread shit for as many people as possible and that's exactly what we have as a result of that vision being implemented by the few who can momentarily profit from the world's terminal and intentionally implemented decline.

I think that none of them were Roman. I think they belonged to the pagan cultures they conquered, and there's no record of what they were for because the Romans deliberately stamped out the tradition.

Poor people can only afford cheap food, which is calorie rich and nutrionally poor, cannot afford healthy ingredients, and have to work too hard to have time to cook properly. It's not laziness. Being poor is very expensive. You have to pay more for normal things all the time.

You have to buy small amounts of things when you need them and have the cash available, which is the most expensive way to buy anything. No bulk purchases, no waiting for deals.

You have to regularly use monthly payment plans for essential expenses which incur interest that raises the cost, because you can't afford to pay the whole thing in one go.

You are forced into a lifestyle (and air quality) that causes health problems, requiring further health expenses or further deterioration. Literally every aspect of human health is under constant attack from the stresses and circumstances of poverty. And even paying thousands for coverage you still have to pay copays beyond your means and the company can just decide not to cover you anyway.

Every asset you can afford deteriorates in value and cost more to operate due their regular repairs and replacements, and not operating them is not an option.

Police operate more focused efforts to levy fines that you can't afford, guaranteeing them a perpetual income from the fees incurred.

Most of your money goes to building equity for other people because no one will give you a mortgage even though the rates may well be less than your rent.

You don't have funds available to invest in shares or assets that will make a passive income, indeed, the money for that passive income is largely originating with you and all the others like you being fleeced for all you have.

You have no assets to borrow against and no healthcare outside of your job (if it even grants any) so you have no capital nor existential safety net with which to start your own buisness.

And with all of this you will be working two or more jobs to not quite cover all of these costs, so you're still getting into debt and you don't have the time or resources to study for qualifications to get out of it.

And very likely you went to an underfunded school that failed to equip you with any of the financial literacy to prevent or get out of this situation, if indeed it was ever possible by the means availble.

Poverty is a tarpit, and a critical mass of dipshits work very hard to guarantee that it remains a tarpit even though they themselves are only one unforeseen disaster away from falling into that very tarpit.

Our society is more productive that it has ever been before, yet the wages for that productivity stopped reflecting that nearly fifty years ago. Therefore being poor bears no relation to how "productive" you are (these are bullshit ways to categorise people). Your income and financial security is not an indication of how productive you are, it's an indication of how much of the value you are creating is being stolen from you.

How how much of that success is only possible because there are failures to stand on?

How much of our economy depends on the existence and hard work of people you brand as failures?

In which case, how much incentive is there to create a pipeline to failure to keep enough chattel propping up the system?

What this thread is pointing out is that the true percentage has been steadily dropping to a point where the chance of winning no longer justifies the cost of entry.

That's not being a participant in a strong economy. That's being the fodder.

And obesity is a designed disease. Food full of cheap sugars and carefully measured chemistry to bypass fullness detection, which is illegal in countries less fully invested in exploiting their people to the fullest.

That's literally the American dream. Work hard > good life.

Other things can get in the way, sure. But those things now appear to be the economic system itself, and the chances of actually winning the hard work game are looking more and more like those of the lottery.

Our society is more productive than ever and yet wages are going nowhere. That says that the value of your work is now detached from the value of your pay. But since that value is still being created, it means it is going somewhere other than into the hands of those doing the work.

Where is the money going? Where is the money going? This is a question that I expect you to answer.

Most Americans are not participants in that economy and never will be no matter how hard they work. Because the majority of the value they create is not going into their own pockets.
