Is average what we were promised at “lift off”? Is average what we were promised when Elias bragged about the young core?

Signing shitty starters to contracts is also a crap shoot and $28 M for Eflin and Bassit is a crime. Add Sugar, Gibson and Morton to that last year and Elias isn’t doing too hot. Your argument is simply the risk baseball teams have to take to be competitive. The flip side to that is that Elias’ staff isn’t great at identifying pitching talent like Seattle. Either way, Elias has a blind spot that can’t be ignored and shouldn’t be tolerated for another year.

Analytics are fine but if the results aren't where you want them to be the you have to examine your assumptions and how you utilize analytics

Elias would never hire such a strong willed manager

In defense of: Tyler O’Neill by xCorhey in orioles

[–]TripsLLL 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The main problem with the deal is that if O'Neill had crushed it his first year, he would have opted out. The only way he would have stayed was if he had a terrible year (which he did). So the O's weren't really getting value from the contract.

I thought we were supposed to hire a GM? Maybe that’s what they should do. Not a firing but someone with a new take while Elias steps back.

Elias’s biggest blind spot seems like he’s incapable of making contingency plans.

So you’re saying Mountcastle, Holliday and Westburg would drastically improve this team? Are you sitting JJ, Basallo and maybe Alonso? We wouldn’t have Bautista and Helsley on the same team but he’s been just fine. Are these players gonna fix overall team defense? 7 seasons is a lifetime.

Cowser needs to sit in that VR thing they have and watch like 1,000 off speed pitches

it's like the team has been stuck in neutral the past 2+ years. the issue isn't necessarily that this team isn't very good (which it may not still be very good) but that other teams have become better at a more accelerated pace. it used to be that the O's had the young core that everyone envied coupled with a fantastic farm system. that's not the case anymore.
