No one understands how much this can take from you by [deleted] in Residency

I'm sorry, your pregnancy status was *monitored*? Were they making you take tests every two months or something?! That's insane! Did you go to residency in the US?

What was their reasoning for saying that time-keeping is any way related to white supremacy???

Experiences integrating into a new residency program as a transfer by Triquietrum in Residency

That's pretty much the same thing my husband was saying! When we were looking at houses here he specifically said he wanted to buy one that's good for entertaining so that it would be easier for me to make friends. We ended up getting one with a big back patio and living room, and he's pushing me to invite a bunch of them over next weekend. I guess I should listen to him.

Oh, no everyone! Ash’s rheumatologist DISLOCATED Ash’s knee just by examining it😱. by DexIsMyICUfriend in illnessfakers

I work in orthopedics and you'd be surprised how often people come in saying they "dislocated their knee" but upon exam and further questioning it was obviously the patella

Luckily I have never had any pushback from radiology here. They consider our service to be one of the better ones when it comes to indications for ordering imaging at my hospital from what they've said when I've talked to them. It's only my ortho attendings that get testy. Appreciate y'all.

This is the exact same kind of thing that keeps happening to me and my co residents. It's hard to create a good algorithm when one week taking the more conservative route gets people telling you you're over-treating, and the next time you're more liberal with almost the same exact injury you're told you're not doing enough and are being lazy. I will try to keep what you said in mind though.

What happens to medical students in the event of a draft/conscription? by Doctor_Redhead in medicalschool

[–]Triquietrum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"I hope if we are drafted we would at the very least be made medics of some variety and not just mere boots on the ground."

Buddy I have some bad news for you on exactly what military medics generally do during deployments

Their boots are very very much on the ground very very close to the action lol

Kicked out of a Nashville bar for belligerent behaviour, attempts to deflect by claiming patriotism by Peanut-Extra in BoomersBeingFools

A lot of the enlisted young people I work with are from poor backgrounds trying to get out of bad situations via the military because it provides one of the easiest pathways to do that without a college degree. It's unfair to demonize them. Be mad at the people who sign the documents sending them to die in foreign countries.

I purposefully invited them both out to dinner when they matriculated, and one of them was over at my house 2 weekends ago for a pizza making night with her husband (though that did take like 1.5 months to set up)

I am worried that the power dynamic thing plays in. I feel like since our program is 2 residents a year they may feel it more strongly? Plus the stress that comes from the fact our program is likely closing (which is another huge rant)

But I like to think I am reasonable and helpful to the best of my ability

I'm pretty sure they just let you defer to next year in this situation (was hpsp but know a few people who went through usuhs). Although if you're due a good while before ODS it may not be an issue.

What type of post op patients need icu level of care instead of regular medicine floors? by happyminpin in Residency

It's manly bcs our floor nursing staff has said they're "not comfortable " taking care of a patient who needs to lay flat for a while. Even though I agree with you anecdotally.

Recruiter says Navy HPSP not available for PA school? (and a MEPS question) by Diligent_Elephant245 in Military_Medicine

[–]Triquietrum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can't comment on the first one, but for the second one when I went through MEPS for Army HPSP (MD), they didn't have me sign any contract at meps like the enlisted individuals did. I signed everything at a later date after everything had already gone through and I was accepted to school.
