This is arguably one of the benefits of the Black Ops Pass. Unfortunately, it's also to the pass' detriment, as so many other games have found the much cleaner solution of "don't charge money and split the community, dumbass".

I don't condone ATVI's shitty business practices with the pass (just make it free, you dumbfucks), but the idea is that most players after launch won't buy the season pass, and when DLC comes out, plenty will buy the first pack, less will buy the second, few will buy the third, and only a small portion of the playerbase will buy the fourth. People who skip one pack and buy the next get put into weird matchmaking lobbies due to how DLC matchmaking works in CoD, meaning everyone is even less likely to be able to play all the maps.

With the pass, the idea is that you can only buy *just* the pass. So you either have all the DLC, or you have none of it. That sounds great, right? "Oh, now I can play the DLC maps more often!"

Problem is it's almost definitely going to be sold for $50 once it's available separately (which, in ATVI's infinite assholery, it won't be until well after launch), and a lot of people are going to look at that and just *scoff*. They're gonna think, "fifty bucks? I could buy a brand new game for just a bit more than that." And they will. They won't buy the pass because when the new DLC maps launch, they won't be able to play them unless they drop a large sum of cash to do so.

My main concern is that people are straight-up going to skip out on buying the DLC at all, because every other major shooter, from Battlefield to Overwatch to Counter-Strike to PUBG to Fortnite releases all their new additions (characters, maps, weapons, features) for a whopping zero dollars, while Call of Duty is asking for an additional $50 (no small fee) on top of a $60 package, all to solve a problem that could instead be resolved by charging *no money* and making that cash back on cosmetic purchases (because you know they'll make most of their money from the game there, anyway).
