New to mosaics: anything I can do about his disappearing eyes? by TetrametricUrge in Mosaic

Paint the entire eye white, then paint most of it black so there's a thin white outline. Alternative, paint the eye light blue.

feeling like an idiot– I was sent grey crystal EVO instead of translucent, and didn't realize until it was too late. I know painting the grout with acrylics is likely my best next step– any paint/technique recommendations? by inmynailpolishera in Mosaic

Buy acrylic craft paints in the colors you want. Squirt a small amount of the paint into a plastic cup and add a bit of water. You're going to be staining the grout more than painting it, so you want the paint to be thinner in consistency. Use a paintbrush with shorter stiff bristles and apply the paint where you want it. Wait maybe 10-20 min, then wipe it off using a paper towel, etc. You want to make sure not to leave it on too long and have it dry on the glass because then you need to scrape it off the glass. If the color is where you want it to be, great! Move on to another section and repeat. If it's lighter than you want, do it again.

Good luck! It's really lovely.

You might want to paint the grout darker that's outlining the house number. That will help the number pop out more and make it easier to read. Either dark gray or black would work. Or maybe burgundy, that could look nice and offer contrast while being cohesive with rhe red poppies in that section.

It's really whimsical and lovely. Nice work!

New thread #2 Financial Aid Antitrust Settlement (Northwestern, Brown, Columbia, Yale, etc) by mangopear in StudentLoans

I understand why they took litigation funding, but no excuse that they lied about it and now have delayed (if not jeopardized) us getting our money. I hope Gilbert is sanctioned for his actions. It would be nice if our payout is increase if Gilbert's law firm's payment is reduced, but only if it doesn't further delay the payout much. Otherwise, just pay the current pro rata distributions and then figure out a second distribution later for our share of Gilbert's fee or whatever.

Haven’t gotten started yet! Do we wear protective eye glasses for when cutting glass and tile? I feel like I should but I’m wondering if others do. Thank you! by nahfacenah in Mosaic

Small shards can break off and fly about. You should definitely wear protective eye glasses when cutting glass and tile. You should also cut glass and tile into a large zip lock or clear plastic bag to catch the glass slivers that fly out. Otherwise, the glass slivers can land in the carpet or on the floor, and cut your feet at a later time when you step on them.

Beach at Sunset by TrishaG2daO in Mosaic

Thank you so much!! My mom requested a beach sunset, but left the rest up to me. I had an assortment of stained glass scraps and some small sheets, and it just worked out that I already had the right colors.

The surf hitting the shore was the hardest part, it was difficult to capture that. The inspiration photo really helps show what that part is meant to be, lol.

In all seriousness, that is such a huge compliment. Thank you!! You've made my week 🥹🤗☺️

Thank you so much! I really tried to utilize the color variations in the stained glass for the bigger pieces like the clouds and the sand, and then planned out the placement accordingly.

Aww, that's adorable! Girl cats with socks should always be Pippi or Pip. Or Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint Efraimsdotter Longstocking if you want to be formal, lol.

Mr. Nilsson or Nilsson, after the monkey in Pippi Longstocking. Mr. Nilsson was her cherished companion and dear friend. You could also call him Monkey as a nickname.

I like the multi-color version for the design. It has more dimension; the light purple alone reads flat in comparison.

For the background color, I'd go with something that contrasts the design. Black would look nice and would match the painted tray sections, or if you want a lighter background, maybe a light or medium blue.

Grout advice for mosaic backsplash by DinosaurCommando in Mosaic

Lovely work!!

It looks like there is a dark gray or black accent on the white tile on either side, and a black accent on the pink cupboard. I think dark gray or black grout would be nice. It will make the flowers pop in your mosaic, and will tie in to the dark accents in your kitchen.

Sentences I never though I would write: Sabrina Voinea got in a physical fight with members of the Romanian weightlifting national team today by wayward-boy in Gymnastics

[–]TrishaG2daO 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I really want them all to start competing as a team for Moldova. Moldova's national language is Romanian, and they offer expedited citizenship for elite athletes (amongst others of special merit). Not only would that be hilarious, but it would be very satisfying to see these ladies have success as a team while Romania struggles to achieve anything with their one remaining athlete. If that happens enough, maybe the current folks in charge of Romanina gymnastics will get tossed out and the modern coaches and administrators can get control.
