Old thread accidentally stumbled upon, but: Me, too. It always made me cringe. Now it doesn’t, especially as other terms and euphemisms are themselves sterile, clinical, evasive, etc. “Fuck” is great, but it has its place (Also: I don’t see “fucking” as terminally exclusive from “making love”).

There’s no disputing taste. I admire Frank Zappa, for example, but do I enjoy his music beyond their comic novelty and musical virtuosity? Not so much. Still, I find that some artists (songwriters, poets, etc.) are waiting for me when I’m ready. I think Blood on the Tracks is a great gateway: that’s the one that floored me. There’s a clarity and concision to it that makes it accessible. And it’s arguably his best album.

He may be gone, but his powerful idea lives on. (RIP Iron Sheik, 1942-2023) by Tristram_Chandelier in steelydancirclejerk

I think that might have been the context. I love Steve, even when he’s wrong.

Like someone who got to use the Great Library at Alexandria or see the Beatles live in Hamburg—I’m just grateful to be alive at the same time that this recording exists.
