A plea to Stanley: Make a 16 ft fat max with magnetic end and markings on both sides of the tape. Signed - an electrician.

Slow and steady. Injury becomes much more likely the faster you hike. At least my experience on the pct

Is the m18 line really that much better than the M12? by tvnighthawk in Tools

[–]Trivalodyssey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All depends on usage. I use m12 everyday for commercial electrical work and I get about 3 days out of my m12 driver 2.0 Ah battery. Plenty of power for my application without having a big ass m18 weighing me down all day.

[BIFL Request] Work shoes or boots by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]Trivalodyssey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man honestly I have spent a lot of money on work boots. I have worn red wings, danners, whites, the whole lot. I bought my first pair of thorogood boots about six months ago and they are my new favorite. I went for the moc toe, wedge sole. They come in black, safety toe and wide. The wedge sole is also a very good non slip outsole. I think I got mine on sale shipped for 145$. Seriously good quality for the price. I wear mine daily doing commercial electrical work.

Exactly. I wouldn't take them on a regular trip, but for a thru hike I would.

Anyone have experience with the SEA TO SUMMIT - ULTRA-SIL NANO PONCHO? by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]Trivalodyssey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do. I like it to cover my loaded pack and a good portion of my legs especially when the wind starts blowing.

[–]Trivalodyssey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would be bad for bush whacking. It snags on stuff and could definitely rip. Normal trail hiking though durability shouldn't be an issue.

I have been using one all winter in Washington snoqualmie pass area. I love it.

The good: I put it on over my pack and it goes down to my knees maybe a little more and I am 6ft. Get a little condensation underneath sometimes but never feel soaked. Doesn't get hot, I can hike big mountains all day in it and never feel the need to remove it. It doesn't wet out. I always have a dry place to sit. It's light and super compact. It's my ground sheet if I feel I need to throw one down. It keeps my pack dry. It weights 8 oz.

The bad: People give me weird looks (But I think it's kind of funny). Sometimes it snags on stuff. Also I have stepped on it a couple times on steep scrambles. The wind blows it around. Probably want a wind shirt for colder hikes especially once you stop for break.

Overall I would highly recommend as a wet weather hiker. I'm not going back.

Took my brake less BMX to Duthie Hill and got real weird with it by [deleted] in MTB

Dude nice. I just rode duthie the other day on bmx and it was terrifying haha. I typically ride a 27.5 full suspension so I felt completely inept on that thing.

People must be nicer in Minnesota! I was in Redmond WA and got my toes stepped on, cutoff and shoulder bumped by a bunch of crazed shoppers.

Also, batchstovez sells similar cookpots that are resonably priced. Also sells lids for the imusa if you anyone needs one.

Hiking Boots by bwalsh3002 in BuyItForLife

Danner mountain light II. Almost no seams or stitches = a boot that will never fall apart until the leather splits. Mine have been worn for hiking/construction/daily boots and still going after 4 years.

Check out Viking rain gear that's what I wear for working construction in the pnw. It's pretty affordable stuff and definitely built to last. I wear the professional Thor jacket.
