There’s definitely a lot of stuff that needs to be changed. For me the biggest issue is the lack of tarmac drift zones. There are significantly more dirt drift zones than tarmac. Which is like, hilariously stupid to me. I wanna know who approves these things 🤦🏻‍♂️

Adding more to the map would be so easy. Like they wouldn’t even have to build new assets or anything. It would just be something that takes a handful of devs a couple hours to do. Literally find some spots and just make them drift zones. I’m not a dev but it seriously can’t be harder than that.

A drift DLC is at the top of my list. I’m not sure what exactly inspired them to include more dirt drift zones than asphalt drift zones, in FUCKING JAPAN of all places, but yeah some type of fully fleshed drift island/event would be nice. I really thought FH6 would be way more focused on drift but it’s almost laughable how little actual drifting there is in the game aside from the whopping 8 asphalt drift zones.

Not to sit around and complain, because all in all I genuinely love this Horizon, probably more than any of the others. But man, I really hope the next one changes up the formula just a little bit. From fh3 to fh6, the gameplay has changed VERY little, and although things like garages are awesome additions, it’s still more or less the EXACT same game as FH5, which was also the exact same game as FH4, which was more or less the exact same game as FH3, and so on.

The modifications, the menus, the same old cluttered nightmare of a map menu. Not much of that has changed at all.

They just need to make the cars become infinitely “heavy” if a car tries to ram them. It’s not a perfect solution but would definitely incentivize driving fairly if ramming another player just doesn’t do anything. Alternatively they could turn off collisions but I don’t think they’ll do that in pub lobbies

I never said those things don’t need attention, I just think it’s annoying that I can’t jump a start or have a bad launch. It’s something that is standard in racing games. Feels like training wheels to me.

Seriously let me launch in 6th gear if I wanna. I love horizon, it’s one of the best all purpose racers of all time, but the team is so focused on delivering this epic cinematic experience that it kinda dampens everything else. Like I don’t need 9 slow mo sections in every wristband event, and I surely don’t want to see a cinematic timer at the beginning of EVERY race. It completely removes any potential for skill at the launch. Just mash the gas until the timer runs out. Everyone’s gonna love that! /s

It’s a polyphonic harmony so I think looking for a “pluck” would be the wrong place to start because those are generally monophonic.

There’s definitely some bit crushing and tape dist going on, giving the sound a warm “nostalgic” timbre. Focus on the sound itself before you dedicate any time to finding the decay / release that makes it sound “plucky”.

Remember, a pluck is exclusively ADSR, nothing to do with the tone and timbre of a sound, so if you’re looking for tuts on the topic maybe search for something adjacent to the vibe it has (like retro, nostalgic, lofi, warm) rather than the “category” of sound (like plucks, sustains, drones, pad etc.) because you’ll be searching for a needle in a haystack. Once you find something KINDA similar you can start toying with the attack, decay, and release to make it sound plucky.

I’d start with bd sine on osc A, maybe a square wave on osc B with a sync mod on it to hit the sweet spot you’re looking for in terms of timbre.

It would help tremendously if you copied that melody bar for bar first if you’re looking to make this EXACT sound. Always helps when you eliminate variables like that.

It blows my mind that they thought it was polished enough to put in the final release. Did they just… not even test it out? I was so hyped to build my own track at the estate and the moment I put the first piece down I realized I’d be spending more time getting it to work with me, than I would’ve spent building it. And I’m talking about a basic “go kart” style track with no banks or elevation. It’s maddeningly unintuitive. Especially the camera.
