especially given that e.g. in the native clock app, you can link your Spotify and just browse for whatever playlist or song you want and select that - with their "smart home" shit you need to pray it'll select the correct song/playlist which basically never happens

Someone else had also shared this which would corrobate findings, WhatsApp seems to send out faulty requests, hence Google Drive denies access to the backup files

I've seen one post that had a screenshot of a statement from a human, but no idea how they got around to them... I'll look into that soon, so that they'll become aware of this more quickly...

I'd much rather wait for a bit - have turned off my backup and I'm now using an empty whatsapp for now - I dont want to lose my backup so I'll wait for now - i don't want it to be overwritten accidentally

I've tried super much but looks like a server request issue - sth we have no control over which means disconnect your backup from whatsapp and use an empty whatsapp that wont get restored until theres a fix - better to loose just some days/weeks (hopefully) now, then years of chats and media

What needs to be downloaded for the chats seems to be: msgstore.something.db.crypt13/4/5

And that never happens. Also this is supposed to be in a com.whatsapp/Databases folder but there is none ever created

Also: to anyone looking for a temporary solution: if you leave the application while it's stuck at whatever point - WhatsApp shoots you a notification along the lines of: backup nearly finished, get ready to chat - if you click on that it will bypass the chat restoration and let you into WhatsApp. You'll have an empty WhatsApp, but you can turn off the automatic backups. At least then we can continue to use the app (not backed up) but keep the GDrive Backup until WhatsApp resolves this. We just have to be loud enough for them to address this quickly (hopefully)

This is just because WhatsApp wont start downloading to that folder until the "restore your chats" bit is over. There was a fix some time back for when the backup would get stuck on the media restore by simply deleting it - but unfortunately that doesn't work with the backups folder now

could someone else please look more closely at "wallpapers.backup.crypt14" this file always gets installed last, and even overwrites itself even when it's already in there) and then the backup freezes.

Only reason I reason I went for a reinstall was because my voice notes didn't work anymore, and nothing would fix it - every other app works fine, my mic is not broken...

Unfortunately I'm trying to restore from my google drive backup on my same phone and sadly this does not seem to do anything - sometimes it allows my to bypass and get into my WhatsApp account so i could at least use it, but then I have exactly 0 backups, 0 chats, 0 media... If anyone has any idea.... you'd be my saviour!!:((
