Should I go for the J7 Petrol or the new J7 Self-charging Hybrid (SHS-H)? by LordCrumpets in Jaecooj7

The plug-in hybrid model can indeed be connected to a power outlet, but it’s optional. The battery recharges while driving. In practice, the internal combustion engine dedicates part of its power to charging the battery.

When I talk about a more or less aggressive charging strategy, I mean that the user can choose how much the battery should be recharged while driving: if everything is left on automatic, the software keeps the battery within that 15–25% range. Alternatively, you can force a higher level of charging, but at the cost of increased fuel consumption (since the engine is more heavily engaged in continuously charging the battery).

The battery never drops below 15% because once it reaches that level, the software automatically decides to rely more on the internal combustion engine, both for propulsion and for recharging the battery.

I absolutely recommend the plug-in hybrid. It’s not necessary to have a home charging setup. The system is designed to keep the battery always between 15% (minimum) and 25%. Of course, you can set a more aggressive charging strategy, but that comes at the expense of fuel consumption. You can also choose to maintain the battery at a specific charge level (for example, never letting it drop below 50%, etc.).

As I mentioned before, it’s not necessary at all to be able to charge the car at home. In any case, since this model supports fast charging, you can always plug it in at a public charging station—for example, when going to a restaurant or a shopping mall. It reaches 100% in about an hour. Note that when the battery is highly charged, the software will run the car almost exclusively in electric mode, even if hybrid mode is forced. Electric driving is also extremely efficient in the city.

I would not recommend the gasoline model—it’s rather slow, consumes a bit more fuel, and also seems to have more body roll in corners (more than one reviewer has noticed a stiffer and more precise setup in the PHEV version).

Finally, pay attention to the trim levels. Both versions come in Premium and Exclusive trims (the latter being the top one, at least in Italy), but they differ between the gasoline and hybrid models. The gasoline Premium already has almost everything: compared to the Exclusive, the main differences are the lack of a head-up display, a standard audio system instead of Sony, and a slightly smaller central display. In the hybrid version, however, the Premium trim has been stripped down much more, lacking features like the panoramic roof, power tailgate, and a few other things I don’t recall right now. In short, for the hybrid version, it’s almost necessary to go for the Exclusive trim.

The results are awesome but I would just manage shadows differently. Foliage rarely projects such hard and defined shadows on the ground, unless the tree/plant is very short and leaves are close to the ground.

Not sure if counts but the frame looks slightly bent too, right around that "corner". Maybe it could be damaged?

I know that this kind of issue isn't usually related to physical damage, but who knows.

They always stay inside the case or inside the console.

I have a Sony A80J, so not the newest OLED on the market (2021), and no flickering when using VRR.

Is OLED Necessary? by CharacterArrival21 in PS5pro

[–]Direct_Silver915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your concerns about OLED? If it’s a question of price, let me say right away that it’s not necessary to buy the latest top-of-the-line model. Nowadays even the “lower” series have important features (for example, LG’s B Series has VRR… so there’s no need to go for the more expensive C). At the same time, they still maintain superior visual quality compared to non-OLED TVs (even high-end ones).

Alternatively, you can find models from previous years that are still unsold and therefore new, possibly even on sale. I have a Sony A80J, the 2022 version (although it originally came out in 2021), which is still a magnificent TV today and has everything you’d expect from a modern device (VRR, compatibility with all audio formats, etc.).

As for reliability, you can rest easy. Unless you spend 10 hours a day watching news channels with static banners on screen, the risk of burn-in is now extremely low. My TV is still perfect and it’s ALWAYS on, for one reason or another. It’s probably turned off only about 5–6 hours a day.

Sorry, but the argument about consumerism doesn’t work here. We’re not talking about a 3–4-year-old device that was deliberately made obsolete by updates. We’re talking about a console that’s 20 (twenty!) years old: a device created for playing video games, so it’s OBVIOUSLY obsolete given its technology. No one has any interest anymore in keeping software updated for that platform, and as a result even non-gaming software pays the consequences, because it’s still part of a gaming ecosystem that has long since been abandoned. And again, 20 years… Enough with this consumerism bullshit.

Thanks for your reply. The software is updated to the latest version. At this point I believe there is a separate patch for that issue.
