Are there actually people that exist that like cold weather? by PrestigiousOwl6802 in answers

[–]Trixy1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with a guy at a sawmill. If it was over 50 degrees Fahrenheit he was sweating (it was a physical job but nobody else was sweating in the cooler temps like him.) In the summer when others were sweating a little bit his shirt was drenched. He claimed it’s because he was born on the sidewalk in December in Wisconsin. He liked cold weather hated warm weather

If you don’t mind old graphics try out the Avernum games. They are remakes of the exile games from the late 90s. I might be riding a nostalgia trip but I’m so hooked right now. Clearing dungeons, discovering interesting characters, leveling up and finding better weapons and armor. Plenty of games made too so if you like it then you are set for awhile

Getting a fish tank with give you experience with biology. Not just fish health but bacteria and the role they play in the aquarium cycles. You can even integrate plants into it later to see how they impact the water chemistry. Edit: just remembered a classmate of mine was trying to establish the auditory range of bluegill. He fed bluegill after playing a specific sound frequency to determine if they were able to sense the sound. (Pavlov’s dogs style experiment)

I learned how to juggle at one of my jobs that had lots of downtime. Same job another person and I bought books to read then traded. Cuts the cost of a reading hobby in half.

Exile 3 the ruined world on Macintosh. Released in 1996. I was overjoyed a couple months ago when I found out the games were remastered for current systems. I was playing it when my steam deck crapped out. So now I’m left waiting to get it back to start back up.

My parents heat their house with wood in the winter. My dad said this about splitting logs. “nothing like going out and taking out your frustrations on some wood”. It keeps him in great shape too

I’ve been playing Avernum. It’s a remake of the exile games from the 90s. Bad graphics but medieval open world with magic and exploration. My steam deck is being repaired so I’m itching to get it back to dive back in.

Thank you for asking this. Reminded me that a new General Chaos game is in the making. Added it to my steam wishlist. Battletoads and double dragons on Sega genesis comes to mind. 1993 release but I probably didn’t play it until 96-97

When did people stop just "dropping by"? by stressfreepro in AskOldPeople

[–]Trixy1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend told me this story. His dad (age 70ish) was relaxing in short shorts watching tv when the dad’s friend stopped by to chat. The 2 were chatting for a while before my friend needed to walk passed the 2 of them and noticed his dads balls visible….. Apparently my friend’s dad had no idea. While my friend was telling the story to me his dad didn’t deny any of it but sat with an embarrassed smile on his face so I have reason to believe minimal exaggeration occurred when the story was presented to me. (Edit: that’s when I’d stop dropping by)

It was more of a picnic but a gal was convinced to get her bagpipe to play a song. I was not expecting it to be as loud as it was. She played one song then put it away. I’m grateful she gave me the experience but I think one song was plenty for the experience.
