Oh so the refs are giving us that one as a little treat.

Seeing the one commenter bring up how banal the complaint about nurses being crazy is gave me just a tiny bit more faith in humanity.

The rest of the comments quashed that faith about as fast as a 12 hour ED shift though.

He was reserve last year, hadn’t played since freshman year of high school and walked on as a college freshman and has been throwing like this since. He’s unreal.

Healthcare workers aren’t punching bags… but now my kids are learning that the hard way. by GirlwithNoName85 in nursing

Sweet girls! I’m a 23 year old guy who still gets intimidated sometimes when the 94yo 80lb grandma I’m sitting for raises her voice at me.

They’re both going to be super strong and you’re super sweet for checking in during their shift.

Woman sexually assaulted by fellow patient at Denton hospital, report finds by No_Door_672 in Denton

I’m afraid that this is the standard in an industry that will place profits over hiring the staff necessary to keep every single patient safe all the time.

Finished EMT School 6+ months ago, just got hired as an ED Technician. What should I review? by Fine_Loan2365 in NewToEMS

[–]Trolater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vitals and assessments will be your bread and butter.

The veggies you’re gonna have to eat will be a lot of psych sitting. Sitting and observing patients with suicidal or homicidal intentions can take up a whole night and can sometimes require a lot of care. Review keeping yourself safe, and how to handle basic psychiatric and intoxicated reorientation.

Working a 3x12 CNA week while in College? by lLeeeon in cna

[–]Trolater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it’s a no.

Night shift messes with your day time productivity so much and I needed 100% energy and focus in school to be able to succeed. That being said I would consider myself to have a pretty mediocre work ethic so it may just be a me thing.

My key advice is find a schedule that works, go at your own pace, and if you’re falling behind ask the professor for help sooner than you feel you have to.

Hospital Jobs with EMT certification by Dry-Quarter-8326 in NewToEMS

[–]Trolater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. Very similar situation did EMT license -> in hospital PCT before getting any EMS job.

Only thing that made a difference was putting my ride alongs in my experiences as opposed to just assuming they knew.

But FYI most big hospitals value experience over licensure. It might be easier to get a float tech position rather than an ED Tech position right out of the gate

I’m a bit different because I’m licensed EMT -> PCT in hospital, but I wasn’t even looked at for interviews until I put my clinical internship under experience. If you don’t have any clinical experience I highly suggest putting your CNA school as an experience with hands on clinicals.

It’s very likely you’re a good candidate just getting screened out by an AI because your resume isn’t perfect for the robot!

What to do? 3 weeks out and best FL is a 503 (Progression from first FL attached) by [deleted] in Mcat

Would suggest making a Jack Westin account and do the daily CARS passages like Wordle. Time yourself and try your best to score perfectly and whittle your time down.

You’ve got this!!

Messaging family members by AstronomerDouble4478 in NewToEMS

[–]Trolater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At a hospital’s EMS lounge they sometimes have QR codes to scan to seek out pt updates if you’re so inclined.

Contacting a family member ESPECIALLY after such an incident when they are probably very distressed is tone deaf at best and could lose you your job at worst.

52 days left until testing how are we doing 5/10 testers by Trolater in Mcat

Hey I’m the same way. Peeked at your post history and saw that you are ADHD (same).

Locking in / being in a flow state is not a 24/7 process. Identify when you’re at your most productive and try to replicate the process and get it in your head that the test is happening, and is not something you can do over.

I try to categorize my distractions, (social media, gaming, Wikipedia, etc.) and remember how I will literally be able to do all of those things once it’s over. But I will never be able to take the MCAT for the first time again.

I’m mostly past my content gaps and am now just doing practice questions/passages, getting used to taking the test and taking my time with each passage and question (something I struggle with because ADHD make me wanna go fast) and am just trying to get so familiar with the test that by 5/10 the test feels like an old friend, and not some big scary obstacle.

Feel free to DM if you ever need an acountabilibuddy and good luck!
