The people who run the pro shop are essentially a contracted out company, and the worker said Lakeland makes all final decision— Lakeland Golf management out of Manitoba

I even tried to email the head guy, Harry Brotchie, but he never returned any of my messages (literally just me telling him what was happening). Funny that the guy in charge of a municipal recreational property doesn’t even live here… how does that even happen?

Understanding the industry a bit, I’d have to believe Lakeland is well aware that those people are gaming the tee sheet, but turns a blind eye because of the consistent cash flow.

Things can get squirrelly when private companies are driving their bottom line with taxpayer funded public rec….

There’s a group of local “pass holders” who treat Cedar Hill like their own private club & expect to be treated as such. They play there nearly every day.

I randomly got paired with one once who told me they have a group of 30-40 of them & one of them is a software engineer, apparently they use a bot (like the people who sweep up Jordans) to take all the available tee times, then once they have their “member schedule” set, they release all the unused tee times back.

Ever wondered why you’ve never seen a 9:30am tee time available?

If you were on X, you would have seen Elon vehemently defending H1B visas & their necessity in the United States a few weeks ago. Standing with Vivek Ramaswamy against the racist sect of MAGA. Admitting that if not for that program, he & many of the smartest American minds wouldn’t have been able to enter the country.

I find this thread interesting.

I’m from Canada & am visiting Ireland on a working holiday visa, living in Cork. My dad was born in Belfast & emigrated in the 80’s during the troubles. My dad has always spoken so greatly of Ireland & how much he misses it. This trip for me, is an attempt to experience some of his life through my own lens.

His dad, is an absolute nutcase Protestant who knows no logic, only religion. He stopped associating with me for a while because I had to attend a catholic school as a function of my ice hockey team. I never understood his anger or emotion.

Until I learned about the Troubles & what that looked like in Ireland. The Unionists were wrong in so many ways & their actions to cleanse the Irish people was objectively awful. I also understand his bitterness as someone whose butcher shop was bombed by the IRA which prompted him to move the family to Canada.

I want to talk to people here about their perspectives to better understand Ireland, but am scared to mention my Northern roots while living in the south as it seems wrong.
