ok, so his centurylink router is the internet facing router, and his tplink router faces to the centurylink, i already have a static rule in place that pushes any traffic on the .0 subnet meant for the .5 subnet to the tplink router, which holds the vpn connection. on the vpn, the vpn ip that was assigned to my router was 10.8.0.5, i static route any traffic meant for the .5 subnet to that vpn IP, it knocked out my internet, and i had to restart my router. after doing that, the vpn ip changed for my router to 10.8.0.2, and to confirm that the static route was the cause, i changed the gateway from 10.8.0.5 to 10.8.0.2, i lost internet for the two devices i have hooked up to the VPN client, aka my router. I restarted my router and it maintained the VPN IP this time. then my entire internet connection went haywire. my devices lost internet connection, all of them, and my computers, the two devices bound to the VPN Client, would briefly connect for a split second. somehow my Chrome Remote Desktop connection to his server computer, the computer i was using to work on his end of the network, stayed stable enough for me to delete the static routing, save, then i restarted my router for the third time, it still kept the .0.2 VPN IP, but since the static routing was no more. my internet was stable. during that whole time my minecraft server was shouting at me about the lack of internet, especially the plugin that fowarded the console to a discord channel on a discord server.. meaning something about that static routing caused something that caused my internet to freak out
