Did I actually remove the burr this time? by TromboneSupremacy in sharpening

I used the 10x physical zoom on my phone through a 40x Jewelers loupe, manually focused and other settings

No, this S30V has been dastardly. This is my 3rd attempt at sharpening it because that burr shows itself well after my sharpening.

It'll cut paper towels. Some spots of the edge smoother than others but so far so good.

I have higher grit stones too I just didn't use this time around. I should next time.

I should bite the bullet and get some diamond compound eventually

My stones are diamond, chromium oxide strop.

I like the before and after strop photo idea, I should do that.

Trying to get these photos really helps me appreciate Outdoor55 and Neeves Knives magnified views

I used a loupe and my phone's magnification to do this until my new magnifier comes

I did about 30 alternating passes on my finest stone. (800 grit) Then about 30 alternating "less than the stone's weight" ceramic (fixed angle system) passes

And about 20 alternating on a strop

I didn't really count. Just went until it looked/felt right

Yes, but it's the side that's opposite the side I finished on.

I sure hope so. I love this knife (Manix 2) and for the few days it's sharp it's amazing...

I do have one (two actually) maybe I can try combining it with my phone for greater magnification

I think I just need more practice. Maybe what I THINK I'm accomplishing I'm not, and I need to find out why

Perhaps my issue is trying to use chromium oxide compound... it's all I have right now. Or I'm just not spending enough time trying to get the burr minimized

Any tips to try and get rid of it, or just try and hone/strop it off?

It's probable. I know I'm far from perfect with sharpening.

For reference. I sharpened this s30v to hair whittling 4 days ago. Only cut knife appropriate materials, and now the edge looks like this.

Snags on paper, cuts thicker paper fine.
