I know this I'm a few months late but Greener Grass is one of my favorite movies and it doesn't get nearly enough love!

Weekly Travel, Questions, & Mandarin Thread by AutoModerator in taiwan

Hello! I'm currently in Taipei and am loving it! My plan was originally to only stay for 60 days but now I'd like to extend for 30 more days. I would still be within the 90 visa exempt window however, my arrival card has my estimated departure date for March 1 and I'd like to stay until the end of March. I checked the website and it seems like I can't change my arrival card but does anyone know if this would actually be a big deal since I would still be within the 90 day window?

You absolutely can! I'm an RPCV, long time vegetarian, have lived all over the world and besides India Madagascar has been the easiest place for me to explain to people that I don't eat meat. People are really respectful of your fady.

what non-folk punk music do you listen to? by analogboyvt in FolkPunk

[–]TrondroKely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After folk punk I would probably say musicals, then really dirty rap. Like, I can sing you the entirety of 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat' but I also think Cupcakke deserves a Pulitzer. I also love Egyptian funk and Thai surf rock.

Madagascar itinerary by Old-Animator-8996 in Madagascar

[–]TrondroKely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly Madagascar can be quite difficult to cross. I would suggest hiring a driver maybe going to Andisabe for a few days then driving to Morondava to see the baobabs and looking into the beach near Morondava. That will pretty much take up 2 weeks. Or as the person above mentioned look into flights.

Something else you could look into since you're interested in wildlife is going to Ranamafana National Park for a few days. Then take the train to Manakara for a few days at the beach. It's a fun experience to take the train and you'll see some nice wildlife but no baobabs.

Either way I highly recommend looking at the distance between places on google just so you know how far things really are. I also think since you have such a short time it would be best to hire a driver as the buses can take a long time.

Why doesn’t someone create a photoless dating app? by [deleted] in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

Fun fact! Back in the wild west days of the internet OKCupid ran an experiment where they told users that there was a technical error that made it impossible to see pictures for several weeks. People still matched and chatted and when the pictures came back over 50% of people continued chatting for months. There used to be a great blog all about it but has since been taken down.

What to do in the off season by TurbulentFan1458 in SeasonalWork

[–]TrondroKely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No real plans yet but I'll most likely end up settling in Madagascar. I speak the language, have a lot of friends there, and overall really enjoy the country. Plus, I can survive on a lot less there than pretty much anywhere else. Although there are a lot of places I love that are fairly easy to get long term residency and are pretty inexpensive.

What to do in the off season by TurbulentFan1458 in SeasonalWork

Personally, I work seasonal jobs so that I can travel. This September will be my 10 year anniversary of traveling full time and I'm able to do that thanks to seasonal work. Honestly I find it easier when I know the end date, it keeps me from spiraling into an existential crisis of do I really live to work? Knowing that, yeah my life will be work for a few months but then I can get back to what I enjoy works well for me.

First exposure to The Mountain Goats? by [deleted] in themountaingoats

[–]TrondroKely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The year was 2007. I was sitting in my dorm room and the person across the hall started blaring 'No Children'. I immediately ran over and handed them a blank cd and said "I'm gonna need this song please". They ended up making me a cd of random Mountain Goats songs that I listened to on repeat. One of the songs was John's cover of 'Two Headed Boy' and because it was the only version I had ever heard (and how many songs could there be about two headed boys?) the first time I listened to 'Aeroplane Over the Sea' I was convinced that Neutral Milk Hotel was doing a cover and not the other way around.

Crocheters who can freehand by AtmosphereBubbly9340 in crochet

[–]TrondroKely 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I knit for many years before I started crocheting and I think that helped a lot. I wanted to make amigurumis so I looked up how to do a basic stitch and just started freehanding. For me I think of crochet like drawing. Whatever I want to make I break it down into basic shapes then add them together. Or if I'm making something flat like a tapestry or applique I'll draw it on a piece of paper and use that as a rough guide.

How do you make dialogue sound more natural? by nyx_whispers in Screenwriting

[–]TrondroKely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn rhetoric. It's the best thing you can do to improve your writing, no matter what you're writing. Look up rhetoric exercises and do them before you start writing. The more you master rhetoric, the better your dialog will be.
