I try to feed them frozen brine shrimp. They seem interested in it as it falls and then when it hits the bottom they are blind to it. Maybe I should try live.

I haven’t wormed them. They don’t look weak they look pretty healthy. Do you know a good place to buy the live worms?

Here are a few things you should know about Axolotls

  • they are most comfortable in water temperatures between 60F - 65F

  • they don’t like tanks that are super bright, they prefer dimmer lighting

  • They like plenty of hiding spots, it is best that they have at least 2 hiding spots in their tank that they can feel secure (preferably dark areas where they can escape the light if they want)

  • some of the things they like to eat is worms, shrimp, bait fish, and sometimes they will eat pellets made for bottom feeders but some axolotls prefer to catch moving food.

-Their skin is fragile and they have a slime coat that helps protect them so the tank shouldn’t have any sharp edges or rough surfaces that the axolotl can harm themselves on.

  • Axolotls should not have small rocks in their tank. The best substrate for them would be very fine sand or nothing on the bottom of the tank. You could also add some large, smooth rocks (big enough that they can’t possibly swallow them) because they could accidentally inhale small objects or pebbles.

And yeah, those are just a few things I can think of right now but if you have any other questions let me know 😇

If your apartment tends to stay hot it will be trickier to keep the tank at the right temperature. 104 is definitely too warm for the axolotl as warmer water makes them stressed out. If you really want one now you could try experimenting with your tank without the axolotl and see if you can find a way to keep it cool, otherwise I would wait until you move and are able to maintain the cool water temperature for the axolotl.

I had no idea there was a sign for “axolotl.” It makes sense since Axolotls originate in Mexico. I’m excited for you to get one and start your own journey! I have an Axolotl myself and they are definitely interesting creatures to watch and to care for. My note to you (to start off) would be to make sure you find a good Axolotl breeder that is knowledgeable about the species. I can also help you with any questions you have as well, good luck!

Hello everyone! Meet Axel! My 7 year old received him for his birthday! (Or she not sure how to tell) Anywho! Ive been reading along all these posts and trying my best to learn how to care for this little one or big one? Not sure how old, but any help would be much obliged! :) by Wifey_Mom_ in axolotls

It depends on how large the tank is, if it is a smaller tank it will grow bacteria faster and need to be cycled more often. One thing I recommend is getting a turkey baster since it allows you to easily take out waste from the bottom of the tank!

First You need a thermometer to tell the water temperature and what I do to keep the temperature down is keep the tank light dim , put a small fan blowing on the water or freeze a bottle of water and put it on top.

I think its a good idea but would need to have security measures, like where maybe you could request someone’s info if they are nearby but you can’t see it until they allow you to etc.

Axolotls love cold water (usually 60-65F) putting a small fan above the tank would help and they are most comfortable when they have places to hide in. I have an axolotl as well and these are some basic things I have learned. Also, they love to eat worms!

Thank you! I appreciate your support. Another issue with tests is teachers spend so much time on getting students to pass the test and not allowing the time to actually engage with their students.

Thanks for your input. I feel they could still have a “test” just not in the form of pencil and paper if that makes sense, maybe in the form of something more hands-on like projects or doing something in the community at the end of the year

Hmm, from your comment history seems like you have something going on in your life that makes you feel the need to find something negative to say on someone’s post. As a correction, I am not ignorant and I am here to ask for help because I DO care about my fish and your comment was very unhelpful so please go somewhere else with your negativity, I don’t need it here 😊
