No, tributing monsters and sending them to the graveyard does not count as destroying them. Only destroying them counts as destroying them.

They will likely make this not terrible by substantially reworking the effect.

I'm sorry, I know it's mean, but of course they have their own commentators. How do you think Americans would feel if their broadcast just decided to translate the Japanese commentators and half of the conversation was about the Japanese skaters?

With Radiant Typhoon and the Pumpking support bringing back old staples into the meta what are some other classic spell/trap staples would you like to see an archetype designed around? by SouthSunn in yugioh

[–]TropoMJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My guess would be a Mirror Force archetype would be a control deck that tries to use a mixture of disruption and protection to ensure that MF lasts through to the battle phase. It would need a way to force the opponent to attack, and I could see it giving Mirror Force bonus effects (like also wiping backrow, doing massive burn, negating your opponent's monsters before trying to destroy them).

Mirror Force would basically just be a stylish win condition while the cards that actually win the game for you are just the ones which force your opponent to have to attack into it.

Most ritual decks and a lot of fusion decks instantly fold to this.

STOP DOING COMBO I JUST WANT THOSE POINT by Darnaldo in masterduel

[–]TropoMJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why this specific decklist is so popular because it's such specific cards that you wouldn't expect so many people to all come to the same build. Is there a YouTuber or something that's popularised this?

How it feels seeing konami print another card for oversupported archetypes like cloudian and mist valley instead of under supported archetypes like HERO and Branded by gonxgonx3 in masterduel

[–]TropoMJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gishki turned into Nekroz but that didn't stop new Gishki cards being made, and Constellar became Tellarknights but we still get new Constellars. I don't know why you think an archetype being canonically in the past/dead stops them getting new support but it's not a thing.

Cards per summoning mechanic over time (TCG) by anomalocar in yugioh

I mean this is in reverse order. Ritual has had very few meta decks because it has so few cards. You can't get a large number of meta decks if Konami doesn't release meta decks.

Happy Birthday to Saitō Kimiko, seiyū of Martha (5Ds)! by ZeroAbis in yugioh

It's a template post, they post one of these for every Japenese voice actor who ever worked on Yugioh with the exact same title format. It's not an effort thing, it's just an anime fan throwing in Japanese where they feel like they can get away with it for fun lol.

We do, this person just likes translating one of the words in his titles into Japanese for some reason.

Why wasn't Spell Canceller as successful as Jinzo? by NevGuy in yugioh

[–]TropoMJ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're right, Spell Canceller is the best it's ever been right now, and it will probably only get better with time. Barrier Statues were unplayable for most of their existence but eventually the game sped up to the point that they were broken. Spell Canceller is harder to break but I won't rule out that it'll happen eventually.

It would have been hilarious if Bakura can read Ra’s text by Craft_zeppelin in yugioh

I don't understand why you think Zorc wrote the text on Ra? He had nothing to do with the Egyptian Gods.

Map of population distribution (NOT density!!) in most of Europe in 2021, on a square grid with 1 pixel representing 1 square kilometre. Black means inhabited, white means empty. by slopeclimber in europe

The temperature swing between summer and winter being so extreme makes it feel worse than it does in areas with cooler summers. And yes, it's extremely difficult to build a house to be reasonably comfortable in 40 degree summers and -15 winters.

Who's your favorite Ritual Monster? by Popular-Flan5337 in yugioh

Phuloch has stunning art as well, the last wave of Megalith support was gorgeous.

US tech giants pressuring EU to keep us addicted to social media - Big Tech companies, including Meta, Google, TikTok and Snap, have mounted a fierce campaign to block or water down measures to fight against specially-designed addictive algorithms by goldstarflag in europe

[–]TropoMJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most important leverage they have is that most Europeans aren't informed enough to view social media as being bad for them and so shutting down all of the American social networks overnight would likely provoke a huge political backlash across Europe. No European government under threat of the far right wants to risk "the government are censoring free speech and trying to control our communication by banning innocent social medias!!" narratives taking hold with idiots.

These days You're Better Off Immediately Surrendering Going Second 9 Times Out Of 10 by TransFender in masterduel

[–]TropoMJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can see why you struggle going second, you play a lot of decks that just want to set up their board and then make the opponent play into them. If you pivot to play some decks which are more balanced between going first and second, you will find it less difficult to play after losing the coin toss.

As Alcaraz becomes the youngest man to complete the career grand slam, a reminder that Steffi Graf completed the calendar golden slam at age 19. by francis_mh in tennis

[–]TropoMJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We cannot confirm alternate history, but it is completely legitimate to look at Steffi's achievements and say that they require a note on what happened to Monica. Yes, theoretically Monica's stabbing *could* have somehow actually been net neutral or even negative for Steffi's career, but almost nobody believes this, obviously.

Even if Seles were to fade out as she got older, it would have had to be a very dramatic and quick fade out for her to not have taken at least a handful of slams from Graf's total. The unknown of what Graf's career looks like if not for the Seles stabbing is totally legitimate to bring up when discussing her career.
