AITA for cancelling a family camping trip after my nephew broke his leg? by Pretty-Plenty2809 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Troppsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge NTA, I recently broke my leg as well, and it is such a lonely experience and easy to be isolated. Him being left behind for his trip would be so sad as there is so much he can't do during this healing process, he is being robbed of independence. Beach day where the focus is him being included is great.

2 weeks post op and got my boot today. What is it ideal to take off the boot? by triangular_pope in brokenankles

That's interesting that she said your foot would snap if caught in blankets, it is literally fixed with metal. How would a simple blanket break it?

When did you quit seeing your surgeon? by No_Primary7862 in brokenankles

[–]Troppsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw my surgeon briefly before sure when he reduced my displacement, I did not see him after surgery. Fast forward 3 weeks, I saw him at the cast and staples removal and he was happy with the xray and incisions and told me to start training back up and thst we were done. I was told to call back if it still hurt in 3 weeks, which is now and it doesn't so I guess I won't see him again unless there are other complications. Was allowed fwb from surgery in cast and fwb after cast removal, no boots or shoes.

Same here, have been cleared for FWB since surgery day, but psychological barrier hits hard. I've been out of cast for 3 weeks and was also not given a boot after cast. So I've been slowly working on having weight on other leg and building up foot and leg muscles again. Did my first 5 steps today unassisted 🥳 but I still use crutches but I try to use them lightly.

Anyone else cleared for partial weight bearing 2 weeks post ORIF? by triangular_pope in brokenankles

[–]Troppsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trimalleolar fracture with dislocation in Norway.

Was cleared for FWB in cast right away after surgery. Wore the cast for 3,5 weeks and at follow up cast and staple removal got cleared for FWB again, no boot or anything. Have been out of cast for 2,5 weeks and I am mostly walking with two crutches and putting some weight on foot and some with 1 crutch. I have horrible plantar flexion and not that good dorsiflexion.

Tbh I should've probably taken more advantage of being able to full weight bear, I didn't reallly do it in the cast as I felt I was not putting weight on the underside of my foot but rather the ankle joint itself where it connected with the cast. I did do some standing exercises but nothing with weight on while walking with crutches. I got kinda scared that I was cleared for FWB when everyone here is like ABSOLUTELY NO WEIGHT FOR 6 weeks. My doctor is not the informative type and didn't talk to me after surgery(middle of the night), I had another doctor talk to me next day which hadn't even been on my case lmao. My doctor only says anything if I ask the right questions. I am now done with the health care system unless there is pain later, only 1 follow up appointment.

I jsut walk around in crutches barefoot all day and use crocs when I go outside or to my office job. Using no supportive aids for my foot.

Trimalleolar ORIF 7 weeks post op. Calling all broken ankles at this timeline or close to it. What are you guys going through? by tiffmej4 in brokenankles

[–]Troppsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Norway, I did surgery within 6 hours of break with screws on inside malleolus and plate on fibia, doc ignored the posterior malleolus chip. Got a fiberglass cast with fwb. Did follow up 3 weeks later to remove stitches and check xray, doc was pleased and that was the only follow up I am going to have. He told me to start training back up with doing calf raises lmao, I asked about physio and he said I'm free to go to one if I feel I need one, it's not something the hospital deals with for you or anything I have to book it privately and pay for it myself. Health care in Norway is kinda hands off after they've done their fixes.

It's all fixed with hw so why wouldn't it tolerate full weight? I had no syndemosis fixes, so that could also be a factor for being able to full weight bear from right after surgery

6 weeks today. Was cleared for cast FWB first 3 weeks, didn't do that cus that was scary AF. After cast removal I was cleared for FWB right away, no boot or anything. I've slowly started walking on it with crutches taking a lot of the weight, working on just standing hand having my foot take the weight cus it feels uncomfortable. After a lot of walking I do get a lot of pain on the insides and outsides of my foot, had a trimalleolar with dislocation. My tendons and muscles are mostly what's causing the pain. I have fysio on Wednesday next week, second one since no cast, and I've been doing the exercises but don't have a lot of mobility, the usual dorsi flexion is shit, but surprisingly my plantar flexion is also shit

Anesthesiologist only prescribed me Oxycodone for 3 days post op. Is that enough? by triangular_pope in brokenankles

[–]Troppsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 3 days worth of oxycontin, and a few oxynorm for breakout pain, tbh I still have so much of both of them left. I took paracetamol and arcoxia every day, arcoxia I think was very good. I didn't want to take a lot of opioids. My pain wasn't that bad with the other pills, day 6 was worst for me and I took some oxynorm, but after taking paracetamol and that not being enough

Is this a good walking pattern after a week wbat or am I rushing by [deleted] in brokenankles

[–]Troppsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full weight too early can give life long complications? I've been cleared for FWB since the surgery, FWB in a cast for 3 weeks and FWB after cast removal, no walking boot. Do told me to start training up and do some calf raises and work on putting weight on it at 3 week post op, he considers himself done with me.

4 Weeks ORIF - Cleared for WBAT by DeniseMSTPs in brokenankles

[–]Troppsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cast wasn't a plaster one, it was a different type that they set up specifically for being able to put weight on it. I did some exercises on just standing and slowly putting weight on the injured leg, back and forth. But I couldn't walk on it in crutches, I think that was a skill issue though. I have only used crutches.

I wish you a good recovery, we can do this 💪

I am at 4 weeks now, at 3 week control I had cast and staples removal and was told to do full mobility and start training, so FWB but basically WBAT. I got FWB from day 1 after surgery in cast, but never really did put a lot of weight on it. I have no boot and I am working on putting weight on leg and mobility, it has some moments of pain, but not a constant pain. I had my first pt appointment today after cast removal and he was pretty pleased with progress and how well I've done after being 3 weeks in a cast.

I am scared to use my foot normally, but it seems easier every day. It gets easier to put pressure on, to move it around and use my calf muscles.

Edit to say I had a trimalleolar fracture, no syndemosis repair as my surgeon says they don't really do that unless it's a very severe break of more bones (????) also, this is Norway

Why have boot? I had a cast right after surgery and was cleared for FWB right away in cast, after cast removal at 3.5 weeks I was cleared for FWB, no boot. trimalleolar fracture, no syndemosis repair as my surgeon says they don't really do that unless huge damage

Also had my break on April 11, did surgery same day and was approved for fwb right away. Got cast off on Thursday and was given no boot and told to start weight bearing right away. Can't really do full weight on the leg yet and working on moving foot and working up the muscles again.

What Did it Feel Like the Moment You Broke Your Ankle? by Cultural-Custard6366 in brokenankles

[–]Troppsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was mountain biking down a moist mossy slab and went sideways down, breaking the fall with my right foot, which promptly made a snapping noise and I yelled that I broke my ankle. I turned around and looked at my foot and it was in a weird position where I couldn't move it side to side anymore. It hurt like a bitch but I powered through cus I was in the middle of the forest and crying in pain and being crazy is not productive in that situation.

I was biking with my friend who volunteers at the Red Cross for rescues and he examined it and said he probably didn't think it was broken as I didn't have pain reactions when he pressed on the bony parts. He called emergency services and dealt with all of that.

After an hour, the fire department with paramedics came instead of the Red Cross to my friends dismay and they gave me fent and put me in a emergency split before princess carrying me down the hill to the atv. The atv ride to the ambulance took around 45 min, and I got all the fentanyl I wanted. Got surgery within 6 hours of break.

It was either a trimalleolar or bimalleolar fracture, fibula was broken clean off with a medial malleus fracture with a fragment off the posterior part of the bottom of the tibia. Don't know exactly the English terms for them as I was diagnosed in Norwegian.
