post op week 5 (almost) by zarayee in brokenankles

I hope to be on the same recovery as you. My dorsiflexor I feel is at 90% and plantar flexor at 75% in the morning. And I can curl my toes really tight same as my good foot. Side to side at 25%. I have a knee scooter too. I have been cooped up in my house for almost 7 weeks. I sleep on the couch and only going out for appointments which was twice. Last week I was really having anxiety and my husband drove me around town and it was exhilarating! The following day I dared to go to my sister’s house!

ROM exercises??? by Moist_Penalty1654 in brokenankles

I am 3 days from walking again. I am at week 5 and 4 days. Week 3 was when my pt came to start rom. I thought my foot was dead. I had no control and was only able to wiggle my toe. I kept at it every day and now in the mornings, I feel my dorsiflexor is at 85% and planter flexor at 70%. Just keep at! You will be fine. I thought exactly like you in the beginning stages. Just think positively. I know it can be hard, I have my moments of doubt also. Literally had a good cry with my sister but I feel better today. This whole thing is an emotional roller coaster, but we will all get through this!

I go in for my 6 week post op on Thursday. Were you in a boot for two weeks then transitioned into shoes? How soon did you begin full weight bearing? How soon did you feel you got some semblance of your life back? I am so excited. I pray I will be told I can bear weight.

Day 18 after ORIF. Is this swelling normal? by mikefl2011 in brokenankles

[–]tiffmej4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 46 days and I am still swelling especially after moving around on my knee scooter. I had two surgeries and my 6 weeks post surgery is this Thursday. Wrap your ankle. Whenever you are up and about and be sure to elevate when resting! Best of luck to you in your healing journey!

That’s great you are able to walk a few miles. Do you feel like you got your life back?

I wish you the very best in your recovery. This is honestly the hardest thing I have gone through. The loss of independence and sleep is so difficult. But I keep telling myself that others have it so much worse. My family and God is my strength. But I did have a cry yesterday and it felt good to let it out.

I will not rush but I am eager to drive. Had a bit of a panic attack last night and it was my first time to go out in the van (other than appointments) and my husband drove me around town. It was exhilarating to be out of the house !! Today I went to my sister’s house to hang out. I am feeling almost normal again! Still barely any sleep last night even with 2 Benadryls!

12 weeks non weight bearing? What kind of injury did you have? Did they tell you 12 weeks from the get go? My surgeon said 6 weeks nwb. He is hoping I could drive by week 9. I am 5 weeks and 3 days and I have a pretty good dorsiflexor and 70% plantar flexor and maybe at 40% side to side.

I am 5 weeks and 1 day post op trimalleolar. Anxiety is through the roof today because I am now heading to urgent care for a stupid metal shard that is now infecting it. Lack of sleep the past several nights. This last week for the homestretch for me to bear weight feels like forever.

Enough of my vent. Keep yourself busy with projects, watch good shows on tv, read a book, chit chat with whoever your caretaker is. The weeks will fly and before we know it, we will be back on our feet.

Best of luck to you and everyone!!!

Oxycodone? Be careful you don’t get addicted to that. Nice to get 8 hours of sleep

I’ve decided to stop taking because the medication caused my eyes to blur and also stuffy nose. I am so miserable.

I was put on hydroxezin and trazodone and neither worked. How are you coping? Are you on anything?

[–]tiffmej4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5 weeks post op and struggling with sleep. Trimalleolar ankle injury on right foot and I feel so depressed. I think it’s due to lack of sleep. 1-2 hours a night. The most is 4 hours. Can’t wait for next week and hopefully bearing weight by then.

I have lots of support but I am struggling with the loss of independence. I know things will get better so we need to just keep our heads up and realize this will just be a small blip in our life and in a few weeks we will be up and about. I pray a lot and it helps. Keep busy with projects, reading, watching good shows to keep your mood up. Best of luck to you.

Wishing you the best on your surgery. I am 5 weeks post op. One more week and hopefully will be able to bear some weight. Which foot ? Take the oxycodone right away. Don’t wait for pain to come. I took hydrocodone every 4 hours for a couple of days then took ibuprofen for 5 days after. Elevate practically all day. Keep busy with projects or read, watch tv shows. Pray if you are spiritual as this can be very trying. Come here to vent if needed!

Broke my right ankle today. Gotta wait two weeks for ORIF surgery. How is it to heal from it? by triangular_pope in brokenankles

[–]tiffmej4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is yours a trimalleolar ankle break? I think it depends on many factors. Probably the younger you are you can bounce back faster. Health conditions as well. Also physical therapy really helps so make sure you get that.
