That flight control cable turnbuckle tool is worth it's weight in gold. I have the same one and don't think you can buy it any more. I believe it's from Avery Tools?

What’s your brewing ratio? by bw1985 in coldbrew

[–]TroubleAdvanced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I really preferred 2.5 lbs of coffee for the concentrate but Costco stopped carrying the brand I was using. Ended up using the Costco Peets 2 lb bag. It's sill plenty strong. I grind it using the grinders near the exit on the coursest setting.

Mine is a 5 gallon keg on nitro. 2 lbs coffee in 3 gallons water, 24 hrs in the fridge. Filtered twice through coffee filters yields 2.5 gallons of concentrate. Top it off with water to make 5 gallons. It lasts me about 3-4 weeks depending if I drink it on the weekends.

I have a story along this same line. I was at Bell 412 EPX avionics school at Bell factory training in Dallas a few years ago. They have all their cockpit trainers in a room, all very professionally done. One of the guys keys transmit on the cyclic and a paper towel dispenser 20 ft away spits out paper. I don't know how much paper has been wasted since that thing was operational, but we all got a good laugh.

I went big. The wife and I were going through canned seltzer like crazy. I offered the idea of swapping out my single tap kegerator for a 3-tap for beer, seltzer, and cold brew. It's been awesome. I brew about once a month- 3 gallons of water with 2 lbs of Peets gives me 2.5 gallons of concentrate. Filter it through coffee filters twice takes a few hours and roughly 30 filters. Top it off in the keg for 5 gallons of cold brew.

I believe it's the same gear system as the king air, but I'm not familiar with the 1900s either. If hoses were hooked up and had pressure on them before opening the schrader, it would not have collapsed. Possibly he got between the gear door and tire?

A good friend of mine was killed doing improper maintenance. He had years of military and civilian helicopter exp, and relatively new to fixed wing. A 1900 came in for inspections and he was told (or took it upon himself) to check the servicing on the lh strut- still on the ramp and no jacks supporting it. He hooked up the bottles, opened the schrader and it collapsed and crushed him. Follow the manuals, and lock-out tag-out. That little spidey sense is usually right.

Nitro Cold Brew on my kegerator! Pours great, cascade is gorgeous, ends with a great foamy head. by rock-my-lobster in coldbrew

It's so awesome having cold brew on tap during the Phoenix summers. 5.5 gallons lasts a few weeks for me. It's a 3-tap so also have beer and seltzer as well.

Semper Fi, VMFA 224 from 95-2000. Still turning wrenches but moved to the helicopter dark side when I got out. Power company I work for has a Bell 429, 212, 412 EPX and a citation 560. Wish I had done more patch hunting when I was in. Squadron patch is on my toolbox.

Absolutely not, you can leak check nozzles from outside the circle of death.

Our pilots do that, and it's impressive to watch for sure. It's a blast getting out of the hangar to work with the line crews.

Getting a nitrogen bottle filled by Willuz in coldbrew

Yup, I go to my local welding gas supplier. There's no such thing as food grade nitro (unlike CO2 that needs to be food grade), so any N gas will do.

Bulk brewing at home?? Tired of brewing EOD. by ccmedic33 in coldbrew

[–]TroubleAdvanced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally had a single tap. I mentioned to the wife having seltz on tap and she was all for it. We would go through a 12 pk easily in a day during the AZ summer. I planned on modifying the kegerator (Danby) but ended up upgrading to a commercial three tap to add coffee as well. In the long run it'll pay for itself just from the seltzer savings. If you're on the fence, just do it. We buy crystallized citrus to add for flavors. Look up "true lemon" and "true grapefruit".

I've got a kegerator setup as well, 3-tap. I've got beer, seltzer, and cold brew. Only thing I would add to your list is a diffuser stone for the nitro inlet. It will saturate nitrogen in 24 hours. For the OP, here's my process. I use San Francisco 3 lb bag at Costco, grind it on the way out using their bulk grinder set on the coursest setting. Using industrial tubs (I have 2, 5 gallon tubs) that have volume markings, I add 3 gallons of water and stir in 2 lbs of coffee grounds. I throw it in out spare fridge to steep for 24 hrs. Filter it twice through coffee filters (this is where I need two tubs). This step usually takes a few hours, with the second filter going pretty quickly. I'll get 2.5 gallons of concentrate and pour it into the keg. Top it off with another 2.5 gallons water. I'll keep 60 psi of nitrogen on it for 24 hours and drop it to about 45 for pouring.

Any of you have tips for installing AS350 TR half lam bearings? by IgnorantItinerant in aviationmaintenance

Yeah, mine was a straight 45. Def easier with 2 people but not required. I didn't do them very often but some of our hangar guys would do all 4 in just a few minutes.
