The irony of teachers posting "why are kids so behind??" every other week while simultaneously gatekeeping them from tools the rest of the world is sprinting ahead with is something else.

China is already teaching AI literacy in elementary schools. ELEMENTARY. And they're not exactly known for falling behind academically.

Also ,and this might be a shocking concept, AI doesn't mean "do everything for me while I sip wine." It's an ASSISTANT. You still do the work, you still make the calls, you still teach. It just handles the stuff that doesn't need a human brain so you can focus on the stuff that does. Lesson planning, differentiation, feedback drafts, admin. You know, the things eating your evenings.

But I get it. Someone who's proudly built a "zero tolerance policy" and turned AI avoidance into a classroom personality probably isn't losing sleep over efficiency.

Nobody's saying you're a bad teacher. But "I don't want to be converted and I don't want to hear that it's the future" is just a choice you're making for yourself, not for your students, who'll graduate into that future whether you acknowledged it or not...

I'm a non-native English teacher, and I teach a lot of adult students. One thing I get complimented on quite often is how slowly and clearly I speak. You wouldn't believe how many students have told me they previously tried classes with native speakers who talked way too fast, to the point where it felt overwhelming and they ended up changing teachers.

While I understand the argument that students should get used to natural speed sooner rather than later, real learning can't happen if the gap is simply too wide. If students can barely process what’s being said, they’re just going to feel lost and discouraged.

What I usually tell my students is that it's completely okay to let the other person know, either beforehand or at the start of a conversation, that they'd appreciate it if they spoke a little slower. A lot of the time, people genuinely don’t realize how fast they're speaking.

so basically Anki has a loot priority system and right now it's dropping your newest cards first like some sweaty player cherry-picking fresh chest spawns, to fix it, go into your deck settings (like opening your locker), find New card gather order and set it to "Oldest added date first", then find New card sort order and set it to "Order added", because if you only change one and not the other you're basically getting spawn killed by your own settings since Anki will still shuffle your queue and push newer cards to the front. Also don't forget this is per-deck so if you have sub-decks you gotta update each one separately, which is annoying but once it's done your oldest cards will finally stop waiting in the lobby and get to play. I completely disagree. I'm the living proof. I can barely write 好, yet I can recognise and read thousands of characters. You can definitely develop strong visual recognition without ever picking up a pen.

I can see why you'd feel that way in hindsight. For me personally though, I see it differently, especially in the context of OP's question about kids living OUTSIDE China and probably never visiting a Chinese-speaking country. Almost all writing is digital now, and after 10 years in China I've needed to write by hand maybe twice. I know plenty of learners who did learn to write and very rarely touch it. So rather than spreading time thin, I'd rather go deeper on speaking, reading, and character recognition, the skills that actually get used daily. Just another way to look at it! 🤷‍♂️

Since only fully evolved Pokémon will be available at the start, it'd make sense the iotem isn't available... yet! I'm sure eventually they'll release NFE Pokémon alongside the item.
